I have to ask all of my readers a big question, “What Happened to Summer?” I mean where did it go? It seems like yesterday that I was writing a blog about all things summer like sunscreen, protecting yourself from mosquitoes, and more. Oh well I guess I have to get used to the cool weather with winter just around the corner.
Time to take out the sweaters and winter clothes from storage and put away the shorts, t-shirts, and swimsuits. Just this past week my daughter and I took all of the fall/Halloween stuff out of storage and decorated our front yard. We also found the box with all of the old Halloween costumes and party apparel. Aside from Birthdays and Christmas/Hanukkah I am pretty sure that Halloween is a favorite for kids all over.
Every year in October we get into that fall festive mood mixed with a bit of spookiness. This year I wanted to talk about my experiences shopping at Duane Reade for resources and supplies for our Halloween Costume and Halloween party decorations. For those of you that are not from the North East, Duane Reade is a Uniquely New York chain of pharmacies, which sell a wide assortment of items.
They are almost like little supermarkets with a pharmacy inside.
Growing up we used to call them drug stores. Nowadays most drug stores or pharmacies have morphed into mini-retail establishments. Selling everything such as panty hose, Candy and chocolate, medicine, hair care products, books, magazines, toys, food, and much, much more.
Yesterday I took my 7-year old daughter there to look for some new things to add to our outdoor Halloween spooktackular. I also needed to get some leg wear (stockings or tights) for myself and for my Halloween costume. I was thinking maybe a pair of spider looking fishnets would go with my costume.
BTW if I mention tights and Halloween in the same sentence to my husband he cringes. Apparently when he was a kid he wanted to dress up as Spider-man for Halloween. His couldn’t find a Spiderman costume in the store for him so she decided to make one. He told me it consisted of red tights with some other clothing items. I guess he was pretty traumatized by having to wear tights (stockings) that the mere mention of them brings back those childhood memories. (True Story)
Okay so back to my little shopping trip at Duane Reade with my daughter.
After entering the store we went right over to the area where they had all of the Halloween stuff. My daughter had fun trying on some of the scary masks as well as looking at the wide variety of costumes they had.
Although we were looking for a Franke Stein Black and white wig they didn’t have one …
We also checked out some of their outside decorations which were on sale. They had some interesting things to dress up both the inside and outside of the house. We also took a walk by the Halloween candy aisle, which was jam-packed with bags of candy and chocolates. We prefer to give out chocolate on Halloween rather than hard or sticky sugary candy.
After spending sometime in the candy aisle we went over to the DR leg wear and hosiery aisle. There were pretty big assortment of DR leg wear DR hosiery in all different sizes, colors, and patterns. Like I said earlier I needed one pair to go with a black dress I recently purchased and another pair for my costume. I wanted to get something that fit into the Halloween theme plus Duane Reade is running a Boo-tiful legs contest on Facebook!
