Anyone that spends hours at a time seated during the day knows something about back pain. Whether you are in front of a computer at work, driving in your car/truck, answering phones, or any other job that requires you to be seated you will agree that the back takes the brunt of the punishment. For me I occasionally suffer from lower back pain and stiffness as well as neck and shoulder pain. I spend anywhere from 5-7 hours per day in seated in front of the computer. Of course these are not consecutive hours but they do take their toll on my body.
To help me deal with the negative effects on my body I have tried a variety of different things. For example I have tried a using different types of chairs even going as far as using one of those large exercise balls to sit on. It wasn’t that bad but it got kind of annoying after while since every couple of days I would have to add air to the ball. I have also tried several different lumbar support pads some with heat and massage, others with gel and/or memory foam padding. Most of them are pretty good and did offer some relief and support. One complaint I had about all of them was the lack of air circulation they provided. During the summer my back would get hot and sweaty.
Recently I had an opportunity to review a new lumbar support product on the market called LumBuddy from Contourliving.com.
LumBuddy is a contoured portable lumbar support device that promises to be flexible and cool. The design tapers at the center allowing the cushion to flex with your body. There are two cooling features that the manufacturer mentions. One is the dual fabric mesh cover that creates a layer of air between your back and the cushion. The others are ventilation holes in the foam center that allow for air circulation.
After reading the description of the LumBuddy I was eager to give it a try. The package came with the LumBuddy, some Velcro straps that could be used to keep it in place on your chair and extra package of Velcro extensions for the use with larger office chairs or auto seats. I easily attached the LumBuddy to my work chair and sat down and got to work.
Notice that I have a skinny computer chair and my LumBuddy was secured in place perfectly using the Velcro straps on the back.
What I noticed right away was that the LumBuddy was not obtrusive and didn’t poke my lower back. You could feel its presence but it is not very bulky. This can be a positive or a negative depending on your preferences and body type. For me it was perfect. My husband however said he preferred something that pushed in more on his lower back. However he did mention that it felt nice on his back. After a couple of hours seated at my desk I did notice that my back was cooler and wasn’t sweaty. This was a good thing.
After using the LumBuddy for about a week on my work chair I have to say it does live up to its descriptions. And for $29.99 it is a reasonably priced lumbar back support device. I have spent three times that amount on other back support devices only to be thoroughly disappointed. LumBuddy is a good back support device. My next test is to take it into the car when we go on our next road trip.
The only complaint that I have is that extra Velcro extensions that LumBuddy came with do not hold good around my auto seat. Basically the top strap was in place but the bottom strap kept unstrapping no matter how tight i was trying to Velcro them together. If I may suggest to the company to supply the heavy duty Velcro extensions for the perfect positioning on the auto seat. Other than that I am happy with my LumBuddy.
Disclosure: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
