“Lets play house”. I think most of us have said or heard those words many times in our lives. Nowadays I’m not.. I play house for real with my family. But I still can’t forget the many wonderful times I had as a child playing pretend house with my sister and my friends. We didn’t have all of the cool toys that are out today so my Mom would let us borrow her pots and pans and cooking utensils. My sister and I would create this pretend kitchen in our back toy room. She had one of those easy bake ovens and a bunch of dolls that would be our pretend children. We would spend hours upon hours cooking pretend dinners and baking some real cakes with her toy oven.
Now my children have a much more realistic play kitchen than I ever had. In their playroom is a full kitchen set up. They have the fridge, a sink, stove-top, microwave and oven. Of course it is a play kitchen but it does make noises and come with pots, pans and dishes. My daughter has been always asking me for more kitchen stuff to play with. You know fake food and accessories to make her house play more realistic. I tried to tell her that her dolls and stuffed animals don’t really know the difference but she still wanted more stuff.
Recently a web merchant named Gummy Lump reached out to me about some of their products. Gummy Lump is an online toy store whose slogan is, “Toys That Make Sweet Memories”. I think that’s a great slogan that speaks to me. After checking out their website I noticed they had the perfect item for my daughters play kitchen. It was their Pretend Grocery Basket with Play Food.
They agreed to send it to me for review. Within a couple of days of our conversation it arrived at our house. The day it arrived happened to be the day before my daughter’s birthday so the timing was perfect!
I gave the grocery basket with play food to my daughter as one of her presents. The first thing she asked was, “Is that real food?” I guess that is a good thing since it attests to the quality and realism of the product. This particular item was manufactured by Melissa and Doug, who just happen to be one of my favorite toy makers. As a matter of fact if you’re looking to save 25% on Melissa and Doug products you can go to Gummy Lump web site at http://www.gummylump.com/. Okay back to my thoughts about the grocery basket. I really liked the fact that the basket was made of metal. It is not only lightweight but also it is sturdy. With that said I don’t think this would make a good gift for small babies or toddlers. Melissa and Doug recommend this product for ages 3 and up. The quality of the play food items is really excellent.
The cans of beans, soup, fruit cocktail, and tuna are plastic but they are realistic. The other items like Spaghetti, Brownie mix, Granola bars and Fruit snacks are made of cardboard but they are very sturdy. Unlike other play food that falls apart these items look like they will stand up to some abuse from the young ones. The items look real as well. They look like food items that you would find in the supermarket. My daughter really enjoyed playing with them and incorporating them in to her kitchen. I would highly recommend this product and the Gummy Lump website to all of my readers.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free for a review purpose. All writings and opinions are my own. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
