Everyday when my kids come home from school they are always looking for a snack. You know something to hold them over while they do their homework and wait for dinnertime. We are not very big on cookies, chips, candy, and other unhealthy snacks. The usual snack around our house consists of yogurt, grapes, fruit cups, graham crackers, clementines, bananas, apples or any other type of fruit we have. On occasion my daughter will nibble on some carrot or celery sticks with low fat ranch dressing. I am always on the lookout for healthy low sugar, low fat snacks to provide for my family and myself.
Dole a company that most of us are familiar with recently introduced me to one of their new product lines. It is called Dole Fruit Parfaits and they come in three different varieties.
They are apples and crème parfait, peaches and crème parfait, and pineapples and crème parfait. They sent me some coupons so we could try out this new product. When I went to the supermarket I found them in the canned fruit aisle right near the other Dole fruit products. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. When I think of parfaits the image of some overly sweet and sugary dessert comes to mind.
When I brought them home I invited my kids and husband into the kitchen to introduce this new dessert to them. I had purchased the peaches and crème variety for them to try out. We all sat around the table and dug into our own Dole Parfaits.
Immediately there was a resounding, “mmmm, these are good” heard around the table. My kids really enjoyed the mixture of the peaches with the delicious creamy parfait. My husband and I really enjoyed it as well. They even inspired my husband to start imitating donkey from the Shrek movies. “You know what else has layers, Parfaits have layers. Everyone loves a Parfait”. He went on for a bit with that one and just like the donkey from Shrek it was hard to shut him up.
All kidding aside the new Dole Fruit Parfaits that we had were very delicious and tasty indeed. The combination of fruit and crème really delivered a one, two punch in terms of flavor. Not to mention that they only contain 130 calories, have no cholesterol and are a good source of vitamins. In the future we look forward to trying the other varieties that are available from Dole. I am just wondering if I will have to keep them locked up so they don’t disappear.
