Okay so I have to admit I can be a bit of a health nut sometimes when it comes to the kind of foods I put into my body. For the last 5-7 years I have been trying to do my best to incorporate organic foods that have little or no preservatives into my diet. I have stopped drinking milk and try to limit my intake of other dairy products. Although cheese and ice cream are difficult to give up completely. I have replaced milk with unsweetened almond milk and have never looked back.
Recently I was contacted by a company called ChiBar. (www.organic-energy-bars.com) They make hand crafted organic energy bars that are gluten, dairy, and soy free. They sent me over a package containing four different flavored bars that they produce.
I was eager to not only incorporate my opinion but that of my children and my husband as well into this review. I had everyone sit down at the kitchen table and I opened each bar and cut them into sections.
The first bar up was their Mango Ginger energy bar. This bar was chewy as they all were and it was mild with a nice fruity flavor. This bar would prove to be one of my favorites. The next bar up was the Papaya Pineapple bar and this one was not a favorite of anyone in my family. This bar was just too chewy and difficult to get through. There were chunks of either papaya or pineapple that were present that made eating the bar unpleasant. The third bar up was the Berry Berry bar and this proved to be my 2nd most favorite of the Chi Bars. This bar was chewy but not overly intense in that respect. The fruit flavor was present but mild. Finally the last bar tested was the Cacao Cherry energy bar. This bar seemed all right at first with a mild cacao flavor and a hint of cherry. However after chewing for a little while it left a not so pleasant after-taste in my mouth.
This is how the bar looks unwrapped
Overall I like the idea that ChiBar makes their bars with all natural and organic ingredients and add almonds, pumpkin seeds, fig paste, agave nectar, banana chips, hemp seeds..etc I would say that the Chi Bars need to improve in certain areas. For the most part they were a bit too chewy and several times stuck to my teeth. Healthy or not I don’t want food getting stuck to my teeth. Secondly some of the flavors of the bars were not very appetizing. I would suggest that they add some more chocolaty flavors or maybe something with hazelnut. If possible they could make them a little less chewy and sticky.
Disclosure: I received a free sample pack of Chibar to facilitate the product review. All opinions are mine and mine alone.
