15 Do it Yourself Christmas Craft Ideas

Christmas Do it yourself Craft Ideas

Jingle bells; jingle bells, its Christmas time in the city, or something like that.  Well it’s not that time of the year yet but it is coming soon!  Before you know it people will be talking about black Friday and cyber Monday and all the malls will be jam packed with people.  Most of who shouldn’t be driving by the way.  We can leave that for another blog post.

Today I would like to talk about the topic of Christmas Craft ideas.  Decorating the house for Christmas and the holidays is always a fun thing to do around our house.  Whether it is putting up the tree, hanging the lights, or setting up the decorations we all like to participate.  I even have my husband pitching in by getting out the big ladder and hanging lights on our huge evergreen tree in the front yard of our house.  Although this year I’m pretty sure the tree grew too tall and he wont be able to put the star on top. Knowing him though he probably has ideas about getting a crane involved to help him out.

Every year we go to our local craft store a week or two into December and find some cute little projects to complete as a family.  One year my husband bought these little snowmen kits that were pretty cute.  They came with a bunch of Styrofoam balls toothpicks and felt decorative cloth pieces for the clothes.  There were instructions for putting the snowmen together but other than that it was pretty much freestyle do-it-yourself.  The kids liked them and I think a few of the snowmen have survived over the years and graduated to being tree ornaments.  Another time he came home with a gingerbread house that you could decorate.  The gingerbread walls and roof of the house were already baked and ready.  All you had to do was add the frosting, candy canes, and gum drops that were provided.  In the end the house didn’t look that great and the whole thing tasted pretty funky.

This year I have been looking around the Internet and at the library for more craft ideas that didn’t come in a kit.  You know ideas that could be completed using everyday items or things that were easy to find in the store.  I found a really cute one called a Wine Cork Wreath on this one site.  It is made with wine corks (we sure have enough of those around the house) red beads, string, and a bow.  Of course you can add some of your own personal touches like glitter and garland to spruce it up a bit.  It is not the best looking wreath but it sure is a nice conversation piece.  And here is one for all of you gardeners that have tomato cages lying around after the summer.  It is called the Tomato Cage Christmas tree and it is ingenious.  You take a tomato cage and turn it upside down then you wrap the cage in white lighting and then cover that with some type of translucent fabric.  Something holiday like that looks like a ribbon or gift bow.  When it is plugged in they look great and definitely spruce up the house.  These two ideas were just two of 15 do-it-yourself Christmas Craft ideas that are featured here on my blog.

Take a look at all of them and tell me what you think?  And please share some of your own ideas or favorite Christmas Crafts with us.  And remember there are only few days left until Christmas. Check out this cute xmas Clock Christmas Countdown
