Can someone please wake up the groundhog and tell him not to be afraid of his shadow? Seriously, I have had enough of this cold snowy depressing winter already. If this keeps up any longer then I’m going to have to get myself a set of snowshoes and a dog sled team just to leave the house and get to the store. All kidding aside this winter hasn’t been all that bad. For one I have been able to spend more time hanging out with my kids indoors as we try to come up with new and fun things to do.
Fun Girls Day In Party
This past week my kids had a winter recess and my husband took my son for some outdoor winter fun and adventures to New Paltz, NY. But my daughter and I decided to stay home and to create our very own fairy tale magical girls day out and girls day in. My daughter wanted to built her very own large indoor tent for our magical girls day in.
Build an in-door fort/tent
We gathered a bunch of sheets, blankets, chairs, plastic clips, beads, Christmas lights and a couple of old curtains I had in the closet. Together (mostly my 8 year old) we put everything up and created a magical tent right there in the middle of the living room. The tent was suspended from the chandelier and draped over four of our kitchen chairs. I hung the Christmas lights across the top of the tent while my daughter hung beads around the entertainment center.
For the inside of the tent we put a layer of yoga mats, blankets on the floor and collected pillows from around the house. She also grabbed a bunch of her stuffed animals and placed them all around the inside of the tent. With the lights off in the room and the Christmas lights on the tent truly looked like something out of a magical fairy tale.
How to build the enchanting tent VIDEO
My 8 year old enjoyed building her tent so much so she she decided to make a video and to show it to the world how she did it.
We enjoyed having a tea party in her tent and to play with her new Ever After High Dolls. Later in the evening the only thing missing from our special tent party was a movie for us to watch together from inside the tent.
Watch a Movie together
Because we recently got the new Ever After High Dolls and a book; instead of a movie my daughter chose for us to watch the Netflix original “Ever After High: Spring Unsprung.” This is a series about a boarding school for teens that are destined to follow in their parent’s fairytale footsteps. It is an animated series and I have to say I’m not usually a big fan of animated shows. This one however was pretty good and my daughter and I enjoyed a few episodes while hanging out in our magical tent. It was really cozy and warm inside and it was nice to pretend like I was a kid again. Ever After High: Spring Unsprung starts streaming on February 6, follow by all-new series streaming this fall 2015.
Best Girls Day In Party ever!
I think my daughter really enjoyed spending time with me in the tent as well. I’m certainly looking forward to our next fair tale adventure party.
