My family adores books. We enjoy reading books together, my children read books before they fall asleep, and both my husband’s nightstand and my nightstand are littered with books. I have always gotten enjoyment and fulfillment from reading great literary works.
One of my goals, as a mother, has been to pass the joy of reading on to my children. I want to expose them to classic tales, different perspectives, and novel ideas. Great literature can open the world to a child. Studies have shown that children exposed to literature early in life, develop above average language skills and vocabulary, have a longer attention span, and have an increased ability to understand abstract concepts. I usually start reading books to my babies, once they are six months old. The nightly bedtime story is a routine that my older children continue to enjoy.
When I heard about the Babylit books, I was thrilled. Most of my favorite books are well beyond the comprehension levels of my young children. But Babylit brings key characters and concepts to a very basic level, so that children can enjoy the classics too. And lets be honest, parents want a children’s book that they can enjoy too. A boring board book usually ends up “lost”, so I don’t have to be tortured with it every night.
The Babylit board books cleverly combine humor and wit into a book that young children and parents will both enjoy. Not only do they introduce classic stories, but each page is full of colorful and eye catching illustrations. The illustrations for each book, perfectly capture the feel of the original work. Each illustration is creative and beautiful and makes the books exceptional. Each book presents elements of the original story in a simple and kid-friendly fashion.
Pride and Prejudice is presented as a counting book.
Frankenstein is a book about anatomy.
Moby Dick is an “ocean primer”.
And The Wizard of Oz teaches colors.
After my husband had flipped through the pages of each book, he proclaimed that they were, “The best board books on the planet.” I have to agree. Each book was fun to read through, and each of my children (ages 4 months-5 years) enjoyed looking at them. They are clever enough for parents to enjoy, while also entertaining children.
The creators of Babylit have also created DoodleLit.
DoodleLit is a doodle book that features over 100 pages of activities based on classic stories and classic authors. Some pages allow children to illustrate scenes from the classics. Other pages have instructions on how to draw a beloved character from a story. There are fun prompts, instructing children to finish coloring or illustrating pictures. My daughter loved being able to finish pictures and use her imagination to create a scene, how she imagined it.
I was impressed with the superior quality of both the BabyLit books and the DoodleLit book. They would be a fantastic holiday gift for your little reader!
Each BabyLit book retails for $9.99.
The DoodleLit retails for $19.99.
Each is available at babylit.com.

I dont make them wait I sit on the side with my camera, and I let them dig under the tree, and open one present, then go to the next and so on and so on, I love every minute of it. I enjoy watching them, they are so happy, I see it on their face and their smile i try to pick the wrapping paper up as they go along but it never works out like that
