F is for Footprint, Frog, and Football: Preschool Activities for the Letter F

F is for fun which is appropriate because that was what the activities for this letter ended up being. We painted feet, made a silly animal and played a game as a family. It ended up being a great way to spend a Saturday together as a family. That is something that I have been really liking about these letter activities is that they don’t have to just be done with your preschooler, but they can be done with everyone as quality family time!

Here are the Activities we did for the letter F:

The first activity we did for the letter F was make footprints.

The supplies you will need:

  • Paper
  • Kid Friendly Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Pen
  • A Foot

How to do this activity:

  1. Have your child pick the paint color they want.
  2. Paint a letter F at the top of the page followed by writing “is for footprint”.
  3. Go outside, or somewhere where you will be ok if paint gets on the floor, and paint the bottom of one of your child’s foot.
  4. Have your child step down on the piece of paper underneath the writing.
  5. Let the paper dry and clean up the painted foot.

This activity was a quick one but also a lot of fun. Both of the kids thought it was so funny that I was painting the bottom of their feet, and it tickled so that made it funny too. The best tip I have to make this the least messy as possible is to have wet paper towels nearby. That way when your child is done putting their footprint on the paper they, or you, can wipe their foot off right away. I did not do this and of course my son started walking around with a painted foot, luckily we were outside.

The next activity we did for the letter F was make paper frogs.

The supplies you will need:

  • Paper Plate
  • Construction Paper
  • Glue
  • Kid Friendly Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors

How to do this activity:

  1. Have your child paint both sides of the paper plate green.
  2. While the paper plate is drying, cut out the tongue, legs and eyes from construction paper.
  3. Once the paper plate is dry, fold it in half.
  4. Glue the tongue, legs and eyes onto the folded plate.
  5. Paint pupils onto the eyes and two black dots for nostrils.

This activity took a little bit more time. There were also more required but what I have found about projects like this is that the end product turns out so fun and typically one of a kind.

The next activity we did for the letter F was make paper footballs.

The supplies you will need:

  • Brown and White Construction Paper
  • Kid Friendly Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to do this activity:

  1. Cut a football shape out of brown construction paper.
  2. Let your child paint Fs all over the football.
  3. While the Fs are drying, cut out the “stitching” out of white paper.
  4. Once the Fs are dry, glue the “stitching” onto the football.

This was a great activity for the whole family. It involved crafting, which I love. It also involved sports, which my husband loves. So it was an activity that literally the whole family could enjoy. It was also a good way to help my son learn how to write the letter F while also making it fun by letting him do it by painting.

The final activity we did for the letter F was play football as a family.

Once I had decided that we would be making paper footballs it only made sense to also go outside and play football. Since both of my kids are still pretty young it was more of try and throw and then chase the ball. It was fun though to do something all together as a family and to teach the kids a new skill. It also is a great plus to do anything that helps drain some of the bottomless energy that my kids seem to have.

What other activities can you think of that would be fun to do for teaching the letter F? What are some letter F activities that could be done as a family?
