This week our first letter we moved onto was the letter G. The activities I had lined up for this letter were ones my kids had been asking about for days. Especially the activity that had to do with making a yummy treat. Even though my daughter is back to full day school, we waited for her to come home because we have loved being able to do the activities all together. These activities, although first were thought of for my preschooler has become such a fun thing to also do with my kindergartner.
Here are the activities we did for the letter G:
The first letter G activity we did was make hand print ghosts.
The supplies you will need:
- Black Construction Paper
- White and Black Kid Friendly Paints
- Paint Brush
How to do this activity:
- Paint your child’s hand white.
- Help your child press their hand onto the piece of black construction paper.
- Let the paint dry.
- Let your child paint eyes and a mouth on the palm of the hand print to make a face for their ghost.
Really the most time consuming thing about this activity was waiting for the paint to dry. Luckily we did this activity first so we were able to do other activities while we waited. Besides the paint drying this was a super easy and simple activity but was a lot of fun, at least for my child who doesn’t mind getting their hand painted.
The next letter G activity we did was make gumball machines.
The supplies you will need:
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Writing Utensil
- Pom Poms
- Glue
How to do this activity:
- The first thing I did for this activity was write the big bubble letter G on a piece of paper. Then I cut out the other pieces of the gumball machine, the bottom and the top out of red construction paper.
- Then I gave my daughter all of the required materials, the gumball machine pieces I had cut out, the piece of paper with the letter G, the bag of pom poms and the glue.
- Let your child glue everything on.
Another simple, easy and quick activity but also another fun one. This one helps a lot more with the letter recognition as well since they get to look at the letter G the whole time they are working on it.
The next letter G activity we did was play with glow sticks.
This activity started out as being something else that didn’t end up working the way I had wanted it to. The original plan was to make glowing bubbles. I saw a tutorial on how to do this online. It said to mix bubbles with the inside of a glow stick. I did this and may have done it wrong but whatever happened it did not turn out the way it was expected. So instead of being bummed out we decided to just have fun with the remaining glow sticks. The kids had fun pretending to fight light sabers and they loved being able to see in the house with all of the lights off.
The final activity we did for the letter G was make gummy bears.
The supplies you will need:
- Bear Candy Mold
- 3 oz flavored Gelatin (not sugar free)
- 1/4 oz Packet unflavored Gelatin
- 1/3 C cold water
How to do this activity:
- Oil the candy mold by getting oil on a paper towel and rubbing it inside each bear mold.
- In a small bowl mix together the two packets of gelatin. Mix in the water.
- Let the mixture sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
- Place the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove from microwave and mix. If the sugar is not dissolved add into the microwave for another 30 seconds and mix again. Continue until the sugar is dissolved.
- Transfer mixture to a bowl or measuring cup with a spout.
- Poor into the candy mold.
- Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
This is the activity that my kids could not wait to do. It was also the activity we couldn’t start until our Amazon order had arrived. I did not have a bear candy mold on hand so I had ordered one. Every day the kids would ask if it had arrived. Even after telling them no they would still run to the mailbox multiple times each day. Until finally this morning it was delivered. As soon as my daughter got home from school we got to work. It ended up being very easy, the kids were able to help with a lot of it, mostly the mixing but that was a good portion of the steps. Then of course their favorite part was being able to try their creations.
What other letter G activities can you think of? Which one of these activities do you know that your preschooler would love doing?
