Fortunately family-friendly event on Netflix

When your kids are, younger there is such a large assortment of good quality programming for them to watch, both on TV and especially on Netflix.  As the get older an approach the tween and teen years the availability of safe shows and movies tends to decrease.  Their peers at school often talk about watching cable TV programs, reality shows, and more intense programs like “The Walking Dead”, or “Orange is the New Black.”  I was floored when I found out that some of my son’s classmates who are 13 and 14 could watch shows with this type of content.

As responsible parents, we need to make sure that our children are not exposed to content that is not age appropriate.  I am glad that Netflix has parental controls and allows you to set up accounts for the different members of the family.

However even with these protections some material seeps through the filters.  That is why it is very important to speak with your children openly about what they should and shouldn’t watch.  I always find that if you explain the reasoning behind why they cannot watch something they learn to understand that you are just trying to protect them.  It no different than how you teach your children to safely cross the street.

With all that said I am happy that Netflix is working hard on coming out with original content that is suitable for children.

On January 13th Netflix has debuted a new family friendly TV series called Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Many of you may be familiar with this title.  There was a movie that came out several years ago, starring Jim Carrey that shared the same name.  This show serves up a dark comedy that your kids are most likely ready to watch.  As always, I suggest that you preview the show first, and decide for yourself if your kids can handle the material. Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events, looks like it is going to be a great show to watch as a family on Netflix.  My 10 y.o has already binge watched all episodes by herself, but agreed to watch the show one more time with the family.

Have you seen A Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events? What do you think?
