Being a mom is a very rewarding, but difficult task. It is a 24/7 responsibility with highs and lows.
I am a mother of four beautiful children, ages 8, 8, 5, & 1, and have the blessing of being a stay at home mom or the CEO of my family, as some may say.
My workday doesn’t really have a beginning or an ending. Sick days rarely exist, and “vacation time” is taken in microscopic breaks when I turn my duties over to my husband and go hide in my room with the door locked, Netflix streaming, and my candy stash pulled out.
It is safe to say as a mom, what I love to do tends to get placed on the backburner at times…but after being a mom for eight years now, I am finding it doesn’t always have to be that way.
There are ways to do #Whatuluv and still meet the demands of those you love. Here are a few ways I have been able to implement a little me time while still playing tea time with my children:
Do a Kid-Swap with a Friend
I love doing kid-swaps with my friends. One day a week I watch my friends’ children for 2 to 3 hours and the next week she watches mine.
Having a couple hours alone a week really boosts my mood. I am able to do things that I normally can’t…like getting my hair done, taking an uninterrupted shower, or peacefully walking down the aisles at the grocery store in heavenly bliss.
Join a Gym with Childcare
Exercising has been one of my saving graces. It not only has helped me battle insanity, but it has helped me feel better about my self-image, and abilities as a mom.
When I take time to do self-care at the gym I am getting stronger, healthier, and happier. It helps me be more active with my kids and gives them a positive example to follow.
With childcare as an option, I know my kids are getting social experiences and being well cared for. If anything happens to them, or they need me, I am close by.
“Sleep When the Baby Sleeps”
This is advice that I have been given as a brand-new mom with each one of my babies. At first I was thinking that it would be time wasted. If the baby is sleeping, I should be doing everything else that I never get done while the baby is awake…you know, like laundry and dishes…but soon I realized that sleep was the best thing I could give myself because it was me time. Time I could take to relax and just breathe a little.
Now that my kids range in age from 8 to 1, “sleep when the baby sleeps” has become “take a break and enjoy ME time while they sleep or are in quiet time.”
Mom’s Night Out
Scheduling a moms night out every so often is a must! Being able to go out and do something fun with others who also need a break from life is so rewarding!
This is scheduled well in advance so that my husband will be prepared for the task ahead. While I am out without a curfew (lol!), my husband holds down the fort at home. When I come home from a night out, there are times “duty calls” immediately because my baby is hungry or my older kids are sick. I feel like I am playing tag-team wrestling at times, rescuing my husband from defeat.
One thing that I don’t have to worry about is coming home to a baby with soiled sheets because of leaks, thanks to Luvs Ultra Leakguard Diapers with NightLock Plus™. They are more absorbent than before and stay put with larger tabs for fastening.
Everyone balances their time differently, but these are just four ways I balance the “mom time and me time.” It may take some planning, but it is possible. What do you do to find time in your schedule? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Great thoughts Lila 🙂 baby kid isn’t quite mobile yet, so this was a good reminder to enjoy the down time while I have it! And how to budget my time when I don’t anymore! Also, I love luvs diapers. Haven’t tried this new kind yet, but I’m sure I will soon enough!
