If you are looking for an inexpensive last minute birthday gift idea for a child then let me share with you my go-to back up plan…..a personalized art book! This has been a huge hit at the birthday parties my children have brought them to. They are easy to make, inexpensive, super fun and make a great last minute birthday gift idea!

The art book is really easy to make. You need:

*A handful of plain copy paper

*2 pieces of card stock

*Hot glue gun

*Ribbon

Simply design a personalized cover for the birthday child. This is where it gets really fun. Your child can design something special or specific for their friend. If the child loves unicorns, flowers, horses, etc, the sky is the limit. Add their name to make it even more special! Print it out on one piece of card stock. Then put the stack of copy paper behind it and finish it off with another piece of card stock. (You can design the back cover too if you want!)

With your hot glue gun run a stream of hot glue along the top edge, covering it completely. I used the tip of my hot glue gun to smooth it out into an even layer. It’s okay if some drips down a bit because we are going to cover it with ribbon soon. I did try to take a picture of this, but with one hand holding the pages together and the other hand operating the hot glue gun, the pictures were terribly blurry, so I won’t be posting those. 😉 Here is what it looked like when I was done with the top edge.

Once it dries (about 2 minutes) you can open it up like a real notebook!

The back to school sales are everywhere right now and is a great time to stock up on paint, crayons, markers, colored pens, etc. which will make this personalize homemade last minute birthday gift idea even less expensive! For Jordyn’s birthday we gave her a watercolor paint set and bought a pack of markers, crayons, and her favorite treat right before I dropped the kiddos off at the party. I didn’t have time to take a complete picture, but you get the general idea!
