My Zaycon Chicken Event Experience & Recipe

12/30/2014 By Cj 1 Comment

Back in September I wrote a blog post about a screaming deal on Zaycon Chicken for just $1.89 per lb in all 48 continental states. I wanted to follow up with another post actually showing how the pick up process works, show how I package my chicken, share a yummy recipe with you and tell you about their current giveaway for $500 cash and a freezer!

I shared in my September’s Zaycon Chicken post about how to order chicken from Zaycon. Today I am going to share a Zaycon Chicken pick up “event”. On the day of pick up the roads were snow packed, icy and I had a 52 mile drive to make it to my pick up location. I had been looking forward to having my freezer full of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, so I gave myself plenty of time to make it there safely. Due to the bad roads, the truck was running 20 minutes behind. I received a text message regarding the delay. I was grateful that they had let me know via text since I obviously wasn’t checking my email. It also took me an extra 20 minutes to get there, so it worked out just right for me!

Once I arrived at the pick up location there about 15 cars ahead of me in line.

With so many people ahead of me, I took my 4 month old out of her car seat because I thought we would be waiting in line for quite a while.

I was very surprised that I waited less than 5 minutes! The Zaycon fellas were loading 40 lb boxes of chicken into vehicles faster than I could believe! It was almost my turn!

The van in front of me had a back hatch that opened, unfortunately for the Zaycon chicken loading man, the back hatch of that van wouldn’t STAY open….he would place a box of chicken in and the back hatch door would start to close down on him. He was laughing, the lady who owned the van was laughing and I was laughing HYSTERICALLY! The van in front of me had purchased 4 boxes. I snapped a picture just as he escaped it for the final time…had I been thinking, instead of laughing, I would have taken a video, because it was really funny. He was such a good sport about it.

In addition to almost being crushed by that van’s back hatch, it was only 2 degrees outside, but he just kept loading chicken!

One thing I love about Zaycon chicken pick up events is how easy it is! I don’t have to show proof, or have a receipt, I don’t even have to get out of my car! When it was my turn, I just rolled down my window, told him my name, he confirmed how many boxes I ordered and then I said where to put it. EASY! We both giggled a little when I told him that my back hatch of my van wouldn’t try to crush him. Can you see him back there? His hooded head kind of blends in with the car seat on the right.

The chicken comes fresh, not frozen and in waxed boxes. They are liquid resistant, but not liquid proof, so I appreciated that he placed plastic liners in my vehicle before her put the chicken in.

Zaycon Chicken pick up 16I had ordered 2 boxes for my family. Since the roads were so bad I also picked up a box of chicken for my Mother-in-law who lives 40 miles away and 3 boxes for other friends who also live 52 miles away from the pick up location. It was so easy to pick up for them, I just had to tell him who I was picking up for and he confirmed the information on his iPad.

Zaycon Chicken pick up 8My Zaycon chicken loader guy had loaded 240 pounds of chicken in my van in less than a minute! I wish I could have taken him home to unload it for me. You should have seen me trying to lift these out of the van when I got home. He made it look so easy carrying 2 boxes at a time. I am sure the neighbors would have laughed if they would have seen me trying to even lift one out!

Zaycon Chicken pick up 10The chicken comes packaged in 3-4 different blue bags with natural occurring “chicken juices”. I recommend splitting it into portioned sizes before you freeze it, otherwise you will have HUGE chunks of meat to use at one time. I just tackle it one blue bag at a time. 😉

The boneless, skinless, chicken breasts are butterfly shaped and HUGE! One chicken breast almost takes up my entire cutting board!

I like to portion them out into about 1 lb packages and wrap in freezer paper. My friend has a vacuum sealer that she does her’s with, and my Mother-in-law just puts her’s in freezer bags. I’ve got to say, I LOVE the feeling of a full shelf of boneless, skinless, chicken breasts in my deep freeze purchased for such a great price! I love Zaycon Chicken sales!

There are so many yummy things that you can make with chicken. My family loves creamy black bean chicken tacos and the awesome Italian chicken dish pictured below. It is so easy and delicious. We eat it at least 2 times a week and everyone in my family loves it! This can all be done in one pan, but it is so good that we always end up using 2 pans because we eat all of it!

———————————————————————

RECIPE: Italian Chicken (feeds 4)

Ingredients:

*1 lb Zaycon Chicken

*2 cans green beans

*4-6 red potatoes

*1 cube butter

*2 dry Italian seasoning packets

Directions:

Spray cake pan. Open and drain green beans. Dump into pan on one side. Dice red potatoes. Dump into pan on other side. Cut chicken into thin slices and place in pan. Melt butter and pour over chicken, green beans, and potatoes evenly. Sprinkle 2 packets or dry Italian dressing evenly. Bake for 1 hour at 375 degrees F (or until chicken is done) spoon butter sauce over chicken before serving. Enjoy!
