Y Volution Y Fliker Carver C3 Scooter

03/27/2014 By Irina 87 Comments

Several years ago when I was at the park with my youngest child I remember seeing several kids riding one of those 2-wheeled collapsible scooters.  You know the metal ones that you push along with foot power?  Now you pretty much see them everywhere.  Living in the city occasionally I even see adults riding them to the subway or downtown to their offices.  They have really exploded over the years with many different companies making them in all types of colors and styles.  Now most people don’t realize but scooters have been around for many, many years.  However it wasn’t until one company made them so portable and light that they really took off.  With improvements we even see battery and gas powered scooters available.

Recently I heard of a new variation of the scooter that is propelled by body motions rather than putting your foot to the ground.  The name of the scooter is the Y Fliker or Y Fliker Carver C3 and a company who makes it is called Y Volution.

yvolution Y Fliker Carver c3

The Y Fliker scooter is difficult to describe so I suggest you click on the link and take a look for yourself or look at my video below.  Basically the scooter has 3 wheels instead of 2 and two platforms for your feet instead of one.  It has the traditional handlebars of a scooter with an added hand brake for quick stopping.

y flicker c3 carver

We had a chance to test one this past weekend at our local park.  First off the scooter came in a large rectangular box.  After taking it out of the box it took a total of 5-10 minutes to get it up and rolling.  The only assembly that I had to complete was putting the handlebar pole into the scooter and tightening up some bolts using the provided Allen wrench.  I did have a little bit of difficulty opening up the scooter and locking the two platforms into place.

folded y flicker

It’s a little bit tricky at first so you may need some assistance.  On each side of the scooter there are two bolts with a spring mechanism and plastic knobs.

how to fold y flicker scooter

You have to line up the bolts with the holes on the body and turn them until they are tight.  The pictured diagram in the instruction manual isn’t too helpful with this part.  I would have preferred a written instruction to go along with the visual.  Anyway after I got the two bolts in and tightened the Y Fliker was ready to roll.

My daughter and I first gave it a whirl in out kitchen.  Using a side-to-side motion we were able to propel the scooter forward.  Seeing how easy it was to maneuver we were eager to get it out to the park for some real testing.  On this past Saturday the weather warmed up a bit and we headed to the park.  First to try it out was my son.  He got on it and after a bit of practice he was able to move pretty quickly around the park.  After a little while longer he was showing me how he could do 360’s and some basic tricks.  My daughter and I tried it next and we both had similar experiences.  Finally it was my husbands turn to give it a ride.  The weight limit for this model is listed at 220 pounds.  He’s not quite that weight but not to far off either.  He was a little worried that he may be too much for the scooter.  However he was wrong.  It took a little longer to get used to it and he wasn’t as good at making it move like my kids and I were.  For myself the ride was very smooth. I must also note that the park’s pavement is VERY smooth and the ride is a bit rougher on the street. I could see this being really good exercise in my hips.  You sort of have to move your legs and hips from side to side like you are skiing or ice-skating.  Well sort of.  It is actually a very unique experience and I highly recommend this product to my readers.

Disclosure: I received a sample mentioned above for a review. All opinions are mine. The Y Fliker Carver C 3 that we tested is the model for ages 7+. However the Y Scooters are available for all ages 0-3 years old, 2-5 years old, 5-9 years old and 9+. Please Visit Y Volution web site for more details.

Watch these 2 videos of Y Fliker C3 Carver in Action. I apologize for the sound, it was a bit windy. First video is about 30 seconds, the second video is about 50 seconds.
