Contour Ab Belt Review. Does it REALLY work?

06/11/2012 By Irina 17 Comments

So picture this your watching TV late at night eating some snacking on some munchies and one of those lose weight or ab machine infomercials comes on.  For some reason you cannot seem to change the channel or maybe your just to lazy to get up and reach for the remote.  I am sure we’ve all been there before.  Anyway I saw this infomercial for The Contour Ab Belt several months ago and I immediately thought, “Wow another ab scam.”  How could a device that electronically stimulates your abs actually work?  In my opinion there is no substitute for crunches and hardcore core workouts, and watching your diet.  Cannot leave that part out.

With all that said I was quite skeptical when I was contacted by the company to do a review of the Contour Ab Belt (www.thecontour.com).  They assured me that my skepticism would be put to rest if I followed the plan and instructions.  I quickly received the package in the mail and soon thereafter read the instructions and watched the informational DVD.  I was eager to put the Ab Belt to the test since my mid section was a little flabby. The instructional video was very easy to understand and to follow. After watching the instructions it took me less than 10 minutes to hook up, wire and set up my Ab belt together. This is how the Ab belt looks  on the outside.
This is how the Ab belt looks on the inside:
Included in the package was a meal plan and guide.  To give this product a fair shake I figured it would be a good idea to follow all of their suggestions.
The diet guide was great.  It was easy to follow and not to stringent. The Contour Core Sculpting system suggests a 1400 daily calorie meal plan for women and 1800 daily calorie for men. With 6 easy daily meals approximately 200 to 300 calorie each. This is the example of their daily menu.

The ab belt took sometime to get used to however.  I was a little apprehensive about increasing the stimulation level on the belt.  Based on their Intensity Scale from 1 to 100 where 20-30 is the Beginner with mild muscle contraction, over the first week I gradually increased the intensity levels until I could feel the electrodes pads stimulating my muscles.  It was a very similar feeling to the electro therapy at my chiropractors office.  After time I was able to keep on increasing the levels but my abs didn’t really feel like they were getting a work out.  The skin was definitely contracting from the stimulation. However the highest level of stimulation I was able to achieve is 30. Anything higher than 30 I was feeling an awful burning pain on my skin and I couldn’t take it..

Ok so here is what you have all been waiting for the results.

Did I lose weight? Yes, I lost about 4 pounds in 1 month. I simply followed the Contour diet plan. I feel great because their Six 300 calorie meals a day worked out very well for me. I still did go to my gym 2 or 3 times a week and exercised for an hour. I followed Contour exercise guide 2 times a week. I worked my Contour Ab belt 30 days for 45 minutes every single day. Oh man but it was a torture.. lol

I have to say that my abs felt tighter and more toned.  Do you think it is from the Ab Belt tortures? Absolutely not! Simple watching what I eat and normal 45 minutes a day exercise is the KEY!!!!  Oh yes and I did 15 minutes of ab workout a day separately, you know, those old time simple crunches. However I will not look forward to continuing with my trial with Ab Belt. Why torture myself?

I would not recommend the product to anyone who has difficulty doing crunches and ab work.  This product may or may not work for you.  It’s not worth a try. Contour does however offers 30 day guarantee policy. You can try the belt for 30 days and if it doesn’t work for you simply return it. You may have to pay return shipping fees. But why waste your time and money? Instead I will recommend watching what you eat and doing exercise activities daily. Please feel free to email me here if you have any questions…

Disclosure: I received no compensation for this publication. The Ab Belt was provided to me by Contour Core Sculpting System for free in order to test out the product. The views expressed in this review are mine and mine alone.

A loss of 4 pounds in one month. Not bad for an ab belt device. So, do you think
the diet is just as important as the daily routine of using the ab belt?

Shannon. I don’t know if you’ll get this but from what the author said, she didn’t attribute any of her weight loss to the belt itself. More to the more efficient diet plan and her own exercise routine.

@Irina I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you. The only thing in this article that had me worried was the word “skeptical.” Usually that’s a word used by people who are paid to say good things about a product and it immediately makes me skeptical myself when I see that word. Obviously this is an honest and unbiased review. Thank you for it :]

I need to order more electrode pads for my Contour Fitness Belt. A double set of 6 would be great. I’m having a hard time trying to find the ordering icon in the on-line add. Thanks, Eric Anderson

Wow thanks for reviewing the Contour,I have seen it on tv, had tried various other belts before that mimic the Contour but I agree with you, hard work and eating right is the key to losing weight. I like that you told the truth in your review. The review was well worded too.

I have noticed with all those “get thin” or “firm up” gadgets, they always come with a low calories food plan…… so if you follow it and not even use their gadget you will lose weight

Pro contour user. Depending on the settings, sme settings burns yes. Does it work yes, I would say for 199.99 I am satisfied. Do you think any thing will just get you a flat tummy , No… Diet and use it, you will get a flat tummy, well of qourse ! It stimulates your fatty tissue, something you couldnt do,or wouldnt do on your own. After that it works on your muscles. The very purpose is to get your mid section active and ready for sit ups and so on. Will this belt flatten your tummy like a flat abs women who go to the gym… Dont get it twisted ! Hell no.. This belt is majorly for people who wants to get tone, lost control.over mid section. Or ones who have to skip gym sessions for whatever. It stimulates.fatty tissues and get your mid section active so that you can start to do sit ups on your own.. The belt just fully.stimulates.your fats, and muscles. Yes it does reduce fat around the waist . Provided you also eat right. You keep eating unhealthy then a belt, anything will not help durrr….

I have use belt for years when first came out.
I eat lay back with family, do not work out. Doing spring I use.belt eat healthier and do sit ups. My tummy loses two , three inches every year with this belt.. It also works for upper back ladies , bra area. Where the fat sits, lol… Thats why I will always keep this belt it multi.use. Even flab on legs..

    1. Put belt on.use twicw to three times a day.
    2. Eat anything , but not too much fatty foods,
Like peanutbutter sandwich for lunch. Or ham , turkey.
    3. Breakfast eat eggs, or toast bacon. Just in small.portions.
    4. The key is small.portions at a time.
    After.you eat.use belt.
5.Dinner eat whatever.just drink water with and use belt afterwards.
    6. The key is smaller portions.of food, use belt after. Even while.driving or on errands under sweater.
7.Do about 15-30 sit ups a day for about One month with your belt.

Irina hope are are doing well almost 10 years later. You have to remember this is about countourab was about creating muscle tone and working away fat. I am almost positive you were already in shape. So chances are you replaced fatty tissue with muscle. Which is shown by your weight loss by total. What did your muscle tone and definition look or feel like.

I am military, found mine in storage. I can still do 75 sit ups in 2 minutes but I am 40 and my dad bod is trying to come out. I have been using it on and off during my two hour commute and it is working for the purpose of muscle tone in the abdomen.

    Stay healthy, love your blogs.
