If you’ve been a fan of this blog for a while, you know I am a huge fan of Zaycon Fresh and their delicious, fresh, boneless, skinless, chicken breasts that I buy in bulk 40 lb packages. If I were to show you the top row of my bookshelf, you’d know that I am also a huge fan of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. I was excited when they released their line of comfort food last year. These two companies have recently teamed up and now I have an easy way to get fresh wholesome products outside of the traditional retail channels!
Last month, Zaycon had a chicken event in a town near me. I placed my order online, paid in advance, picked up my chicken during the set up date/time and packaged them up into 1 lb packages before putting them in the freezer! If you’ve never ordered Zaycon chicken, here is my in depth photo review of how the process works. Oh, how I LOVE a freezer full of good chicken that is 100% natural, no added hormones or artificial ingredients. That is what I love most about Zaycon Fresh, the chicken is always delicious!
About a week later I received a package from Chicken Soup for the Soul. It was filled with some of their awesome products. Chicken Soup for the Soul offers food items beside just chicken soup! I was surprised when I opened my package to find a meatloaf meal builder sauce, honey mustard BBQ sauce, chicken broth, a mug, spoon, “From Lemons to Lemonade” book, and 2 sets of a Chicken Soup for the Soul apron, potholder, ad potholder glove. I was expecting soup and got so much more!
When I saw the meatloaf meal builder it dawned on me that in the 11 years I have been married I have never ONCE made meatloaf! I guess it is now time to change that! There is a recipe on the back of the bottle that I can’t wait to try.
My kid’s love grilled chicken but it tends to become a bit dry without a dipping sauce. I hadn’t found a sauce to go with it that they loved, yet. For dinner tonight I thought I would try marinating some Zaycon chicken breasts in the Chicken Soup for the Soul honey mustard BBQ sauce and grilling them while we worked on cleaning up the yard for our “family night” activity. I began prepping my chicken by slicing it into thinner slices so it wouldn’t take too long to cook thoroughly.
I also had one random-not been cooked yet-chicken breast that I had bought in a package from the grocery store the week before my Zaycon event happened (I really dislike having to buy chicken from the grocery store at outrageous prices!) When I put a piece of Zaycon chicken next to the store bought chicken there was a big difference in color and visual appearance. The chicken at the top of the picture is store bought. The bottom slice is Zaycon. Which looks more appealing to you?
Once I had a few pounds of chicken sliced up I covered them in the Chicken Soup for the Soul Honey Mustard BBQ sauce. Yum!
The honey mustard BBQ sauce from Chicken Soup for the Soul was so tasty! It had a tangy, smoky, bold flavor. There were small bits of deliciousness in it too making it have a nice texture.
The chicken marinated for a couple of hours and then it was grill time! To help keep my white t-shirt white and not BBQ sauce colored, I wore my new handy dandy Chicken Soup for the Soul apron. It had such a cute saying on it: “Food is like life, it doesn’t mind if you throw in a little spice”.
When the chicken was done grilling and the yard was clean we headed into the house for a family dinner complete with green beans, apple slices and homemade orange julius to drink!
This was the moment of truth, the BBQ sauce and chicken had to pass the “kid” test. My 4 year old likes BBQ sauce so I gave her some on her plate to dip her chicken into. My 7 year old reached over to taste it and requested some for dipping on her own plate. Then my 8 year old wanted to try too since the others liked it…..she loved it too! The chicken had a great flavor, the honey mustard BBQ sauce was perfect for grilling, basting and dipping!
My 8 year old said, “That was a delicious dinner, can we have that again tomorrow night?” She also wanted to know what was “in” the sauce, so she took the bottle to read the ingredients. She pointed out to me that along with this bottle of BBQ sauce, there was a story suggested on the Chicken Soup website 0502. I can’t wait to look it up and see what story it is!
I love that the Chicken Soup for the soul food items compliment the products that Zaycon Fresh sells! The Chicken Soup line includes, broths, soup, gravy, meal builders, BBQ sauces and more! Zaycon Fresh sells chicken, beef, hot dogs, sausages, fish, and more! It is a perfect match! For ordering details on any of the products mentioned in this post, you can go to the Zaycon Fresh website!
Just last week Zaycon announced that they are coming across the lower 48 states to bring chicken across America! This chicken is a screaming deal at $1.69 per lb! I haven’t seen that low of a price in years at my grocery store! You can sign up for a free account to find a “chicken event” near you!
They are also running a giveaway that will have 11 winners!!! Check it out here!
