Captivating children through reading can sometimes be a challenge. I try hard to find books that are exciting, adventurous and fun to read to my children when they are young. This has proven to be a successful way for them to enjoy reading as they grow older. Since my first child was born, reading together has been a staple in our family. When I began to read the books I received from Put Me In The Story to my children a moment was created that I will forever cherish.
Put Me In The Story gave me the opportunity to personalize four books for each of my children. In return, I was asked to talk a little about my experience and to share any helpful tips that may be beneficial for others when they go to order books for their own families or friends.
One of the first things I noticed when I went to the website for Put Me In The Story was how difficult my choice was going to be to narrow down which books I wanted to order. There are so many book choices. Narrowing it down, really was a difficult situation for me. However, in a way, I loved having so many choices, because I was able to personalize the book selection specifically to each child individually. Being able to select which book related best to my children created an excitement within me knowing how much they would love the book.
How to Order a Book from Put Me In The Story
After browsing the website and selecting what book you would like to personalize, you choose what type of cover you want (hardcover or paperback) and then press BUILD MY BOOK. From there, you are prompted to fill in designated spaces with names and a personalized message. It is worth noting that the personalized message option is not available for every book, so make sure to find a book with that feature if you want it. After that, you upload the requested amount of pictures and then the books’ draft is created. It is that simple.
I highly suggest taking the time to proof the book, and scroll through each page before your final submission. You may find that you need to edit the pictures you have added by cropping or even replacing what you originally had uploaded. Don’t let a simple solution of proofing the design become a devastating realization once you get it delivered to your doorstep. (No, I didn’t learn this lesson the hard way. Years of being a yearbook book and newspaper editor have taught me a thing or two about proofing the final drafts.)
Find Me If You Can
I ordered this book for my 2 year old daughter. She loves looking at pictures, and even more so when she is looking at ones of herself. When personalizing this book, you are able to choose to include one, two, or three children to incorporate throughout. Originally, I just uploaded one picture of my daughter, thinking maybe the same picture would be duplicated on each page. However, that was not the case. One uploaded picture meant only one picture to find in the maze of other faces.
So instead of doing that, I uploaded three different pictures of my daughter, giving her three different opportunities to find herself. Obviously if you are wanting to add than just one child to the book, it wouldn’t be a problem, but I wanted this book just for my two year old. I uploaded some of my favorite pictures I had taken from my phone and the book turned out great! NOTE: This book does not have a personalized message option available for it, which is kind of a bummer because it is such a sweet memento to give to your children.
Pete the Cat and Ruby’s Sunglasses
Talk about a winner! This book is one I would order for a friend, or even my other children, again and again. Pete the Cat is a fan favorite in many households, and when you add a personalized touch to it, the story comes alive even more. This book features your child’s picture eight times through out the book. When my daughter realized her picture was throughout the book, she loved it! In addition to the picture, your child’s name also appears throughout the story.
You are able to add a personalized message with this book, and when I read it my daughter she beamed with excitement and love. She hasn’t let this book out of her sight, and even brought it down and showed me some places in the book where her name is even in the illustrations.
Bailey, Star of the Story
This book has a really cute storyline, but as far as personalized features, it lacked a bit. Perhaps I should have taken my earlier advice and proofed the book more thoroughly before deciding on this one. I only say that because after reading all the other books I had ordered, my daughter was disappointed that her name wasn’t incorporated into the story as much as everyone else. A personalize photo is only in one part of the book, and the name is at the beginning and ending.
If I would have just been ordering this one book, with no other ones to compare it to, it would have been great…but I did experience a little disappointment as my daughter didn’t get as much recognition as the others did in their books. So just a little food for thought if you like this book, but are going to be ordering multiple books for others as well.
Calvin, Don’t Push the Button
Another winner!! This book is a must have on everyone’s book shelves. It is fun, adventurous, and interactive. I knew my nine year old son would love it. This book has your child’s name on nearly every single page. As I was reading to my son, he was just perplexed that HE was being spoken to directly through the book. In addition to the personalized writing throughout the book, two pictures of your child appear on the front and back page.
This book has the personalized message option as well. The colors of the book are bright, and the ability it has to really bring the story to life is exciting for everyone in the room. I would 100% recommend you get this book. It may be my most favorite of the four I received.
I hope you are as excited as I am to order some books for your family and friends. Who do you think would love to receive a personalized book from Put Me In The Story?
If you are shopping for a personalized holiday or birthday gift, this is a great chance to make it a one of a kind gift.
