Six Flags and I have an interesting past. I do not like roller coasters so whenever we went to Six Flags (usually on school trips) I was the friend who watched everyone’s stuff. So it was exciting to be going to Six Flags for the first time with kids. It was exciting to find out how this would change things. So here is how my family’s trip to Six Flags Over Texas went!

Our trip to Six Flags started out with a splash.
My son is about 37-38 inches and my daughter is about 40-41 inches. It was surprising to me how many rides they both could ride outside of the kiddie park. This was one of the rides that my daughter was especially looking forward to (we had watched most of the rides before hand on YouTube). It is called the Aquaman Splashdown. My daughter, who we learned on this trip, is a lover of roller coasters so she loved this ride! It is probably unfortunate for my son that he is so tall for his age because he did not like it as much.
He did however like waiting on the bridge afterward to get soaking wet. This was a great way for the whole family to stay cooled off in the hot Dallas sun for at least an hour or so. It was also great to see that they were taking precautions to make sure everyone stayed safe by making anyone who stayed on the bridge stand behind a metal bar and hold on.
The kids also loved the rides in Bugs Bunny Boomtown (the kiddie park).
They have 10 rides in this part of the park. Some of the rides the kids ride on their own, some you may need to ride with them and some you have the choice to ride with them. Since I am not a huge fan of rides myself it has been a fun experience watching my kids learn which rides they like. My kids personally loved the kid swings and the cloud bouncer (this was my son’s favorite ride of the whole day). The other kid rides in the park all brought huge smiles to both of their cute faces!
I loved being able to enjoy the park with my kids.
I have been to a Six Flags amusement park about 5-10 times in my life but this one day at the park I rode more rides than all the other times combined. Really I am such a baby when it comes to rides. But being there with my kids helped me break out of my comfort zone a little bit. I even went on a couple rides I normally wouldn’t have before. Enjoying anything through the eyes of your kids really is the best! It was also great not having to be the bag carrier for everyone for the first time ever!
There is really so much to do at Six Flags.
Since my husband and his brother really enjoy the big roller coasters we knew we needed to take the kids somewhere to play while they went and did a few of those. This was when the Looney Tunes Adventure Camp became my best friend. We went here about 5-6 hours into our visit to the park so my kids were a little tired of waiting in lines. So being able to go to a huge playground was a great option. The slides there were adventurous , it was a fun place for them to run around, climb and explore and they even got to be Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny for a few seconds. Before visiting the park I would have said that there was a low chance of us visiting that part of the park. It fortunately turned out to have been one of the highlights of our trip.
For those who love rides than Six Flags is the place to be, even with kids in toe!
Although we did spend the majority of the day all going on rides that the kids could go on with us, we did find some time for the ride loving bunch to slip away and have some more fun. They have a lot of big roller coasters for the ride enthusiasts. The roller coasters is what comes to mind at first when thinking about Six Flags since they are so big!
What is keeping you from visiting Six Flags?
My answer to this for most things is usually money. With Six Flags this is something that can be resolved. They have a few ways to help the cost go down. You can show up at the park with empty coke cans and get a reduction in price. You also have the choice to buy a season pass, which if you visit enough pays for itself in just a few visits. We went with our in laws who have a season pass and they have gone enough that they basically go for free. They also got a meal pass at the beginning of the season which gives them one snack and two meals each visit. This has also paid for itself considering one of the meals we got last time was worth $13.
Another great perk of the season pass is that it allows you to visit any Six Flags park. This means the next time my family comes to visit they can use their season passes from the New England Six Flags and go to the Dallas Six Flags. Next season this is something we will definitely be considering.
Did you know that you can also enjoy the park if it rains?
When we went to the park there were thunderstorms throughout the afternoon. This was unfortunate because there was about an hour or two when the rides were shut down. This gave us some time to sit down and relax and talk. We also enjoyed some of the yummy food they have at the park like funnel cake. Then when the thunderstorms cleared and the rides started the lines were so much smaller and quicker. It was great not having to wait so long in lines anymore. So the park can really be enjoyed in most weather!
