M is for Marshmallow, Maraca, and Magnet: Preschool Activities for the Letter M

These are the activities we did for the letter M!

The first activity we did for the letter M was paint with marshmallows.

Supplies:

  • Kid Friendly Paint
  • Paper
  • Marshmallows (we used miniature ones)
  • Toothpicks

How to do this activity:

  1. Have your child pick out the paint colors they want.
  2. Stick a marshmallow with a toothpick.
  3. Give your child the toothpick with a marshmallow on the end of it and let them dip it into the paint and use it to paint their paper.

This was a simple but fun and unique activity. I have never before painted with marshmallows before and it turned out to be a great idea. Everyone had fun making different shapes and designs and to end it all they painted a little with their hands as well.

The next letter M activity that we did was make maracas.

Supplies:

  • Mini Red Solo Cups (found these at Walmart)
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Rice
  • Beans
  • Elastic Bands

How to do this activity:

  1. Fill a mini cup half full with either dry rice or dry beans.
  2. Cover the cup with a piece of plastic wrap.
  3. Place an elastic band around the plastic wrap and cup to hold in place.

After we finished making our maracas we then turned on our favorite kid songs on Alexa. We danced and played along with the music.

Another letter M activity that we did was building with marshmallows.

Supplies:

  • Marshmallows
  • Toothpicks

How to do this activity:

  1. Poke marshmallows with toothpicks and connect together to build.

Super simple and easy, I mean there is only one step! It was so fun to watch my kids and see what each of them would come up with building next. Then of course they had even more fun cleaning up by eating their marshmallow creations, well not the toothpicks of course!

The last letter M activity that we did was play with magnets.

This activity can be done in so many ways. The first thing we tried was filling a bowl with beans and paper clips and explored what would happen. After playing with that for a little bit we decided to walk around the house to see what we could find that our magnets would stick to. This was probably our favorite way of playing with the magnets because we got to discover so many things that a magnet would or wouldn’t stick to.

Which of these activities would your child love? What other ideas for letter M activities do you have?
