Each year I cherish the magical feeling Christmas brings into the lives of my children.
The excitement of Santa is one of the topics that brings joy and wonder to the holidays for my family. We spend a lot of time talking about the “naughty and nice list”, Santa’s elves, and what special presents Santa will bring on Christmas-eve.
Have you heard the Christmas song “Santa Claus is Coming to Town“? The lyrics say “He sees you when you’re sleeping – He knows when you’re awake – He knows if you’ve been bad or good – So be good for goodness sake!”
My children always ask how Santa knows what they are doing and question his ability to see everything they are up to. In the past, I forged letters from Santa to my children highlighting their level on the “naughty and nice list” hoping to spark some continued interest in the jolly old elf.
Now, thanks to the Portable North Pole website, my children get something even better than a handwritten letter. They get personalized video messages from Santa and his elves in the North Pole.
There on the screen appears Santa, addressing each child by name and asking them how they are doing on something specific. For example this year, Santa asked one of my children how they were doing keeping their room clean. Another was asked if they were brushing their teeth regularly like they are suppose to be doing.
The look of pure amazement and joy radiates from their faces as Santa talks to them personally. To them it is Christmas magic. A happiness almost impossible to recreate.
For the last few years this personalized message from Santa has become a Christmas tradition. It has also helped prolong the inevitable by a year or two.
What is the “inevitable” you may ask? It is them discovering the truth about Santa. (eek!) It is a natural stage of life after-all, but one I am sad to think about as a parent.
Regardless of that, personalized messages from Santa are always going to be fun and highly anticipated.
Give it a try in your family and let me know how it worked for you. What do you tell your children when they ask about Santa?
I would love to hear what type of experiences you had with it in the comments below.
