Get crafty with Gemmies

Gemmies are the perfect gift idea for any child that likes to be creative and crafty! It is as simple as click, connect, create! This Gemmies design kit includes a studio, lights, organization drawer, patterns, gems/crystals totaling over 500 pieces! gemmies-package

I knew my 8 year old would LOVE this-and it would be something we could enjoy spending time together with, so when the chance to review it came, I said send it my way! I was a tad nervous, I’ve had a few rough experiences with crafty gifts before, but I was pleasantly surprised with the Gemmies, it really was as simple as clip, connect, create! First thing first we needed to get all our crystals into the organizing drawer of the design studio and add batteries to the light up display box! There were 4 tabs on the design center that securely held the pattern in place. There were small, clear gem containers to hold the gems you set aside to make your project with. emmies-design-studio-organizer-drawer

As we were unloading the Gemmies, I noticed that the gems had small slits on one side, which is how you “clip” them onto the small rubber bands included in the kit. It is just the right size to fit over an expanded rubber band, but thin enough when the rubber band isn’t expanded, it doesn’t get loose.

Of the 5 included patterns, we chose the bear to try first. The pattern card told us how many of each item we needed. It also had a web address where we could watch a video of someone making the bear Gemmie. This video was incredibly helpful for a first time Gemmie makers like ourselves!

Once we gathered all of our supplies, pictured below, we put them in the clear gem holder buckets in the design studio so they wouldn’t roll away.

The next step is to slide one of the included rubber bands onto the Gemmie tool up to the point shown below. This expands the rubber band so the gems fit on easily. Once the band is removed, the gems stay on because the band is thicker than the opening on the crystal.

Following the pattern card (which is really easy to do) we made all the “sections” of the bear, then connected them together as shown.

We just clipped, connected, and created then showed off our work on the Gemmies Design Studio’s light up box!

It wasn’t exactly right, somehow I am missing the ears on this little fella, but we had a nice time working together and he is pretty cute with or without ears. 😉

Gemmies are recommended for ages 6+ and even my 10 year old who isn’t into the crafty things opened up the additional package we were sent and made an adorable frog! This is a gift idea that can just keep giving and giving. You can buy accessory packs and you don’t necessarily need the design studio to get started. You can purchase this design studio on Amazon for $22.99 or at Target!* You can also purchase building kits as well! The next thing we want to make are bracelets for their pen pals! What would you and your child create first if you had Gemmies? Who in your life would love this? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Hi, would you be so kind to share the instructions of how to make the little bear?
We bought a kit which came with instructions to make bracelets and my daughter would really like to make a little animal.
We tried to follow a video but it is really hard to follow all the steps..
Thank you very much for your help!
