How to Make Homemade Mt. Dew Jelly (Recipe)

Do you know someone that LOVES Mt. Dew–then I bet they would LOVE Mt. Dew Jelly. It is incredibly easy to make, takes about 15 minutes, and makes an awesome gift! This is an easy homemade Mt. Dew jelly recipe that even a beginner can make! No worries if you never made jelly before, this is a fun place to start!

I am a visual person who prefers to see each step of the recipe via pictures. For anyone who just wants to get to the recipe, scroll down to the bottom of this post and there will be an easy to copy/print recipe for you! 🙂 Okey Dokey, lets get started by gathering all of our ingredients! You will need:

  • 3 1/4 cups Mt. Dew
  • 2 TBS lemon juice
  • 4 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 packet of pectin
  • 4 jars, lids, and rings

As you can probably see from the ingredients, this isn’t a very healthy jelly–but it sure is fun–and such an inexpensive gift to make! To start making this you combine your 3 1/4 cups of Mt. Dew with the 2 TBS of lemon juice.

Bring to a brisk boil and time for 3 minutes…not a boil that is rolling but not a boil that is just tiny bubbles…..a brisk boil. 😉 Then add 4 1/2 cups sugar. Due to the large amount of sugar I pre-measured this into a smaller bowl and added it that way. If I lost count I could easily start over.

Bring your mixture back to a rolling boil (rolling boil means you can stir it and it still boils rapidly.) Then it is time to add your pectin. If you are fairly new to jelly making let me tell you a little bit about pectin. (Mostly because I only know a little bit-ha!) Pectin can be found in the canning aisle at your local grocery store. The pectin I use is Certo brand and it comes in a double pack that looks like this:

How to make Mt dew jelly 7Pectin helps your jam/jellies to turn from a liquid to a jelly texture. You can make jelly out of several unexpected things (like Mt. Dew!) so I like to have a few boxes on hand.  Check for sales in the fall! This was a 2 pack and it is a clear gel substance that comes in a foil pouch.

Picture1Now that we all know what I know about pectin, let’s get back to the recipe. To recap, we added our sugar, brought it back to a rolling boil and timed it for 3 minutes. Now add your packet of liquid pectin and stir continuously until it is combined well. Bring this back to a rolling boil and time for 1 minute. Once your minute of rolling boil is up, remove from heat. This is what it should like when it is done.

How to make Mt dew jelly 11Do you see the foam on the top? That is because of the pectin. You can skim it off with a metal spoon (sorry I should have taken a picture of that) Then carefully pour it into your jars, put on the lids and seal with rings finger tight. To make these shelf stable/storable you can water bath them for 10 minutes. Let them cool. The pectin does it’s job and jell-ifies your jelly while it cools.

How to make Mt dew jelly 4SO FUN, right?

If you want MORE Mt. Dew flavor to your jelly you can take 6 cups of Mt. Dew and boil it down to the required 3 1/4 cup requirement for this recipe. You can also make this with any soda. Just think of it now….Dr. Pepper Jelly, Root Beer Jelly, Diet Pepsi Jelly, Diet Coke Jelly. Oh man, the possibilities are endlessly fun! I am anxious to submit a jar to the county fair this year! I originally found this recipe on Food.com but I am such a visual person, I thought I’d make a photo tutorial on how to make homemade Mt. Dew jelly for anyone out there like me! MMMMMM. All gone!

Hmmm, this is interesting. I never thought of soda as a good flavor of jelly, but I do love Mountain Dew. Might have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

It does if you use regular Mt. Dew. You can find caffeine free MT dew

I realize this is an older post but hopefully you or someone else can answer … If I make this with a different flavor, say root beer or cola, should I still add the lemon juice? Will that alter the flavor? Thanks!
