This is up a little bit late since I had wanted to do one of these posts a week, but only late by a couple days! Since we did A last, of course the letter B is next! The letter B is even more fun in our house for my son because all three of his names begin with this letter. Once you get to the letter(s) that make up your child’s name it can be so fun to emphasis this to them. That these are their letters, the letters that make them.
For my daughter one of the things that got her excited about letters was when she learned about the letter S. This is the letter that starts her first name. Still to this day her favorite letter is S and she still gets excited every time she sees it.
Now onto the B activities that are great for kids who start with B or any other letter:
The first activity we did for the letter B was make a B out of beans.
What you need for this activity:
- Any kind of beans (but if you do black or brown beans than you can highlight these other b words)
- Paper
- Glue
- Opt.- Crayons or Colored Pencils
How to make a B out of Beans:
Since my son is only just starting to learn the letters I wrote out a big B for him, but this could also be done by the child. I then applied the glue on top of the B that I had drawn. Another option could be to use a glue stick, this way it is easier for the child to put on themselves. But Elmer’s glue does work better, especially for gluing beans.
After the glue is put on, this can be done in small sections so that it does not dry before the child gets to it, have your child place beans on top of the glue. My kids then also wanted to color their pages which was a great way to extend the fun.
The second B activity we did was to make a bunny in the shape of a B.
What you need for this activity:
- Construction paper, variety of colors including white and pink
- Cotton Balls
- Glue
- Crayons and colored pencils
How to make a Bunny in the shape of a B:
I also started this one out by drawing a big letter B for my son. Then applied glue, in small sections, onto the B. As I applied the glue my son then added cotton balls on top of the glue (This would be a better activity to use a glue stick for). For the tail we added a few extra cotton balls to the bottom left of the B.
It is a little difficult to see in this picture but we did add a bunny face, using crayons. We also added bunny ears using triangles cut out of white and pink construction paper. This was also placed on the paper by my son. Then of course since their last picture was all colorful this one needed color too.
Both of these activities were quick, used supplies we already had laying around the house and were fun for both my 3 and 5 year old.
Let me know in the comments below what B activities you have done with your children. Have you tried any of these before?
