Reality in life is that our sweet children don’t stay young forever. As they grow up and start to mature, their way of thinking shifts. Interests begin to form and transpire into passions.
As parents, we want to help give them direction and experiences that will help guide their lives to success and to live their dreams. That is exactly what I feel the Scientific Explorer line by Alex Brands does. Through hands-on learning, our children can explore the world of architecture, geology, food science, and so much more.
Scientific Explorer Young Architect City Planner
This kit comes with everything needed to plan, map, and build a city of your dreams. With 75 different pieces, 3D buildings can be developed into a great metropolis or rural living environment. Using an acetate stencil sheet and a traceable city guide, roads, train tracks, plants, baseball fields, rivers, and so much more can be added to give great detail and life to your plans.
Also within the kit are 6 large sheets of paper. The paper is placed on top of the city guide board to help with graphing and spacing out the plans for each city. Using reusable stickers, the buildings gain details, such as offices, windows, and signs.
One of the great things about the Young Architect City Planner is it can be ever evolving. Regular sheets of paper can be used once the sheets that come with the kit are gone. Virtually any idea or design can be created. As time elapses with this kit, awareness of architecture and urban planning become part of critical thinking skills. In time, recreation of famous cities will come to life on paper.
This kit is recommended for ages 8 years and older. I believe that anyone with a creative thought process would really enjoy this kit, young or old.
Scientific Explorer Geo Smash Mining
Do you know someone who likes to dig around looking for rocks and other treasures in the ground? Or perhaps someone who loves to collect minerals and gem stones? If so, read on dear friend!
The Geo Smash Mining kit is a hands-on learning experience. Each kit contains a clay block that has pieces of gem stones imbedded within. Using the included plastic chisel and hammer the clay is chipped away uncovering the treasures within.
The clay gets quite messy as it is being worked on, so I would suggest either using the lid of the mining kit (which is what we did) or working on a cookie sheet or sidewalk. Doing that will help reduce the clean-up and make things a lot easier in the end.
It was very exciting uncovering our first gem. Using the brush that was provided we were able to clear away the clay enough to see where we needed to focus our excavating at. We quickly went to the nearest sink and rinsed off the gem stone to reveal beautiful iridescent coloring.
This kit is fun for all ages, but recommended for those 6 and older. No clay block will ever hold the same gem stone. It certainly creates a great desire for more gem hunting in the future.
As you can see, these two kits alone have an abundance of hands-on learning opportunities that can fuel a passion for education and experience. It is very exciting to learn more about Scientific Explorer and what they have to offer.
Looking through their website, what kit intrigues you the most? Have you found that these type of kits help build a desire for further education and experience in the give fields? I would love about it in the comments below.
Alex Brands provided me these items for review. Regardless of our agreement, the words expressed above are my own opinion. Enjoy
