What to do if you don’t have a chimney for Santa-Make this DIY Fireplace! We moved and don’t have a fireplace at this home, my 5 year old instantly became concerned about how Santa was going to get in! So one day we made this DIY fireplace out of empty diaper boxes, blank news papers, a red marker and tape! We had all the items on hand so it costs us nothing to make and took about an hour! Checkout the tutorial below to see how you can make one too!

DIY Fireplace Tutorial

I need to let you in on one of my favorite tips-this is called a newspaper end roll. Most local newspaper offices sell these for just a couple of bucks. It is the end of the newspaper roll that they can’t use in their print machines. It is great for covering tables, making banners, and making a DIY fireplace. My local paper sells them for $3!

I found 5 boxes that were pretty close to the same sizes and covered them in newspaper end roll paper.

Then I found a tupperware lid to use a my pattern for my bricks and traced them with my almost dried out red marker.  (ha ha-just being honest here!)

I only had to trace 3 sides on each box and did a rotating pattern.

Then I used some packaging tape and stuck the boxes together.

I used 2 cardboard inserts to make a mantle, printed out a fire image, and taped another piece of end roll that I had patterned with brick onto the back. For my all my kids (theyare all under 10) it was PERFECT! They are so thrilled with it. I’m still looking for the box that has the Christmas Stockings, so far we only have Jesus’ stocking up!

If you’re hoping to make a fireplace, they actually have brick paper that you can buy for $14.99 on Amazon. My friend’s husband covered their entertainment center one year and put in the fireplace dvd…what a sweet guy!

Another option is to cut out bricks out of red paper, which was my original plan instead of the dying red marker, but I couldn’t find red paper anywhere in my town-so the easy-what I had on hand way-is how it was done! Let me know if you make a DIY fireplace!
