Easy, Quick, and Fun Science Activity: GOOP! [Activity Sticks Activity]

Science is a subject that kids seem to have interest in early on in life. There are so many fun science activities that young kids can do. They are entertaining and educational. The ones that my kids really seem to like are the ones that are hands on. Especially if it is messy. This is exactly what goop is. It is messy, educational, hands on and fun!

Supplies:

  • Corn Starch
  • Water
  • Food Coloring

Super simple and easy list of supplies, items that most people have already!

Step 1:

Add cornstarch to a bowl. I added about 1-2 cups.

Before the next step the kids can feel the corn starch and make observations of how it feels before anything else is added.

Step 2:

Slowly add water to the corn starch until you get a consistency you like.

Step 3:

Add a few drops of food coloring and mix.

Step 4: (the most important step)

Let the kids play and explore!

They will notice that the goop can present itself as both a solid and a liquid. Explaining the difference of these two states is a great way to introduce this subject to them. In my experience kids always learn best through play so this is a great way to teach solids versus liquids. My kids thought this was fun and even magical being able to see it change right in their hands.

Who do you know who would love this science experiment? If you try this with your kids make sure to let us know in the comments! We love to hear about others who love the same activities as our kids.

Head over to my activity sticks post to check out some other fun kid friendly activities.
