Having a toddler at home I am continually trying to think of new things for us to do together. Sometimes instead of doing something totally out of the normal I like to find a new activity that is similar to activities I know my toddler already loves. One of those activities that I usually model a lot of our new activities around is playdoh. She usually plays with playdoh at least once a day if not more than that. Another thing she loves is glitter, which I also love because what girl doesn’t love some sparkle in her life? These two things that my daughter loves are what gave me the idea to make some glitter putty.
Another reason I was so excited to make glitter putty, besides the sparkle and fun colors, was that my daughter could help. It only requires a few supplies and a few steps and because it is so easy and not too messy I had no problem letting my sweet three-year-old help, she always loves being mommy’s little helper.
Glitter Putty Supplies:
-Elmer’s Glitter Glue (I ordered mine from Amazon, a set of 6, because I could not find them in my local Walmart)
-Borax (I also ordered this from amazon, it was a good price and when I was trying to search for it in the store I had two screaming babies so buying it from my couch seemed like the better option at the time)
-Water
-A Tiny Helper
Glitter Putty Directions:
1. Empty the whole bottle of your chosen color of glitter glue into a mixing bowl.
2. Add one TB of water to the glue and mix it together.
3. In a separate bowl combine 1 cup of water with 1 tsp. of borax. Mix together.
4. Add the water and borax mixture to the glitter glue mixture.
5. Mix it up with your hands.
At this point you can choose to go with glitter slime or glitter putty. The longer the glue stays in the water the more tough it will get and the more like putty it will be. The less time it is in the water the more it will end up being like slime. I chose to go with a putty because once it was in that form it was no longer sticky so I didn’t have to worry about cleaning up a huge mess every time my daughter wanted to play with it.
This glitter putty really was so easy to make and only took a few minutes and my daughter was able to help with the whole process. Plus, it is a fun sensory activity mixing up the ingredients with their hands. I really like how you can choose different textures based on your particular preference and it is super easy to store, I just added each one to a different Ziploc bag and when my daughter wants to play with them I get them out and she plays and it is an easy clean up.

I did hear recently that borax is not good to ingest so I would say that if you do make slime using these directions than I would pay close attention to your child when they are using it to make sure they don’t ear any.
