It seems as though every time I turn on the TV to watch the news there is another story about a child being hurt or abducted by a stranger. Occasionally on my phone I get an urgent Amber alert about a child that his been abducted. And most recently I read an article in the newspaper about a young boy who was run over by a van and killed. All of this is horrible news and as a parent of two children it really scares me. My main goals with my children are too keep the safe, healthy, and happy. Keeping them safe is not just about watching them and being careful with them when we are in public. It is also about educating them as they get older and have more responsibility. I try my best not to scare them too much about things in the world but if they don’t have some fear then they may not be very cautious if approached by a stranger. I was always thinking there must be a better way to educate our children about keeping safe in this world we live in.
Well I guess while I was thinking about this “The Mothers Company” was busy creating a DVD called the “Ruby’s Studio: The Safety Show”.
This DVD for kids aged 3-6 about staying safe, knowing what to do when they get lost, dealing with peer pressure to do things that aren’t safe and being in charge of their own selves. The “Ruby’s Studio: The Safety Show” DVD is a great way for kids to learn about safety. It helps kids make smart decisions so they can stay safe in various real life situations. After watching this video with my kids I feel a bit better about their safety. Although kids safety is something that has to be constantly reinforced and talked about in the home. I suggest that you role-play different scenarios with your children. Also it is a good idea to ask them questions about how they would act or what they would do in different situations. You can never be too safe, especially when it comes to your children.
The DVD goes from the kids taking with Ruby on the set and fun activities to do at home to a dance video and lots of really cute animated segments to help kids absorb the message in their own way. It’s super cute and my kids loved Ruby!
