Washing dishes has never been one of my favorite chores so anything that can make the job easier is welcome in my life. With 2 small kids we cook a lot and for the most part in my house we run the dishwasher like twice or three times a week. For most other times we hand wash a plate or cup that we use during our meals. When we get towards the end of the week and the weekend when we tend to be busier we load up the dishwasher with plates, cups, bowls, utensils, small pots and anything else that needs cleaning.
For dishwashing detergent we have always used Cascade Powder and have been pretty happy with the results. Occasionally we will come across a glass that is a little cloudy and spotty. And sometimes we find a plate or utensil with some spots or food particles. But other than that Cascade Powder works pretty well. If I had to find one complaint to make it would be about the occasional powder that clumps up in the reservoir at the end of the wash cycle. This only happens once in a while and isn’t that big of a deal.
I was recently introduced to a new dishwashing product from Cascade. It is their new Cascade Platinum Dishwashing Pacs.
These packs come with a triple action formula that is supposed to prevent residue on the dishes and film from appearing inside your dishwasher. They also claim to scrub away 24-hour stuck on food, and eliminates the need for pre-washing. They also contain the grease fighting power of Dawn. After reading all of these claims I was eager to give this new product a test run.
On Saturday I loaded the dishwasher with that mornings breakfast and lunch plates, bowls and silverware. The plates had maple syrup on them from waffles, cheese from scrambled eggs and mayonnaise from lunch. I also loaded up cups and mugs from the day before and earlier that morning. After loading the dishwasher to capacity I put in one of the Cascade Platinum Pacs into the main soap reservoir and turned on the washer.
After about an hour or so the dishwasher completed it’s washing and drying cycle. I opened up the dishwasher to check out the results. I was very pleased with the dishes and utensils. They are all very clean with no residue or stains left on them. For the most part the cups, mugs, and glasses were clean as well. I say for the most part because there were some issues that I need to mention. There were two glasses that were a little foggy. One of them was plastic so this maybe why. Several of the mugs we use for coffee and tea still had stains inside. These can best be describes as tea or coffee stains.
Overall the Cascade Platinum did a pretty good job. I think the pacs offer an added convenience over the powder since you just pop them in the dishwasher. My favorite part that at the end of the washing cycle not only the dishes were clean but my dish-washing machine interior was shining clean as well! Economically though I would say you are better off purchasing a big box of Cascade Platinum from your local warehouse-shopping club.
The suggested retail prices are:
