This is such a good deal that I can’t keep it to myself-you need to check out the cheap chicken deal that Zaycon Foods is offering! You can score a 40 lb bulk package of farm fresh, not frozen, chicken breast for just $1.89 per lb. Purchasing 40 lbs of chicken may seem like a lot to buy at one time, but buying in bulk can really save your family a lot of money.
How does buying in bulk save you money?
I live in a small town in the middle of the Bakken Oil Boom in Eastern Montana/North Dakota where the going rate for fresh chicken is $4.99 for 1 lb! It will go on sale once a month for $3.49/lb. What is the price where you live?
I use an average of 4 lbs of chicken each week for my family. This 40 lb case will last my family 10 weeks. If I buy the 4 lbs each week at regular price of $4.99/lb I will spend $19.96 in chicken each week–that totals almost $200 over the course of 10 weeks! OUCH! If I purchase my 40 lb case of cheap chicken from Zaycon at $1.89/lb it breaks down to only spend $7.56 a week or $75.60 over the course of 10 weeks. It is like I am getting 63% off my chicken because I bought in bulk! That is a savings of $124! SMART choice, right?
Is the chicken good?
The short answer: Yes, I think so! I buy every time they have a chicken event near me! The long answer: The chicken breast is 100% natural with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients. It comes directly from the processor and is sold in a water resistant cardboard 40 lb case. The dimensions of this box are 18″ wide x 12″ deep x 7″ tall.
Each case has 3 or 4 bags (not uniform in weight) of fresh chicken breasts in natural occurring liquid. This is exactly how your local grocery store receives chicken before they separate it into separate packages and mark it up!
Now I know the price is awesome, the chicken is high quality, but how does this process work?
The Zaycon process is simple. You sign up for a free account on the Zaycon website and check locations. Signing up for an account doesn’t obligate you to order the chicken, it just gets you access to the information about the upcoming chicken events. In October 2014 Zaycon is hitting all the 48 states in the continental United States! Chances are there is a location near you! If there is, choose the delivery location you want, order as many as you’d like, pay online, then drive through and they will load the chicken into your vehicle for you! That is it! Super simple!
Once I have the chicken what do I DO with it?
The day you receive your chicken I recommend opening the case and separating it into portions for your family’s needs. If you stick the entire box of chicken in the freezer right away, you won’t be able to thaw it a little bit at a time. I always cut mine into about 1 lb portions, wrap in freezer paper, let one of my kiddos tape it closed, another kiddo write a C-indicating that it is chicken, and then my 3rd kiddo place them in a zipper baggie. The chicken come double lobed (butterfly style) and are HUGE (about the size of a plate)! Usually I cut them in half and do a little fat trimming before packaging them. Another great idea is to cook it up into shredded chicken and can it. This makes meal times on busy nights so much easier when you can grab already cooked chicken to throw into your recipe!
This sounds great, but I think 40 lbs is too much, can I split a case?
Zaycon Foods only sells the cheap chicken breasts in the bulk 40 lb case, but once you have ordered and picked up the case you can get together with a friend and split it up (and the cost) between the two of you!
