“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for RadioShack. I received a gift card to facilitate a shopping trip and promotional item as a thank you for participating.”
Last week was Cyber Monday on the web with retailers having some amazing deals on the hottest items this holiday season. Not all deals were limited to the Internet; some brick and mortar stores had in-store deals still going on. So yesterday I decided to check out RadioShack to see if any of those deals made sense for me. I always like Radio Shack because the stores are small and very organized. Which makes finding what you need pretty easy. I have at least 5 RadioShacks within 2 miles radius but I like to go to my Continental Avenue Location in Forest Hills because I find the staff is helpful and knowledgeable there.
Upon entering the store I noticed that it was set up differently from the last time I was there. It wasn’t a tremendous difference but the store was more streamlined and organized. Everything was where you would think it should be. The cell phone accessories were near the cell phones, the hdmi wires and TV cables were by the TV’s and DVD players and the toys were by the toys.
I know that last part really didn’t make sense Lol but then again what else goes with toys? I guess you can say batteries since most of the toys found in Radio Shack require them. And Radio Shack sure has plenty of batteries to choose from. Lets put it this way if your looking for a hard to find battery this is the place to go. They have all types of watch batteries, remote control batteries, and pretty much every type of battery you would need. RadioShack is the place I usually get a replacement battery for my watch and baby monitor.
Okay enough about batteries. I want to talk about some things that I picked up while I was there. Well actually one of the things I did pick up were batteries. You see the remote control units for my kids room ceiling fans/lights require these 12 volt mini-batteries that you can’t find in any store. Radio Shack had them of course. A bit expensive like $8 for 2 miniature batteries but what can you do if you need them? (I hope I don’t need them for another 2 years). I brought the dead battery example to the store and after purchasing the new battery the guy asked me if I want to keep my old battery or recycle it? I said recycle! After getting the batteries I checked out some of the wireless speakers they sell.
I have been looking for a wireless speaker to purchase as a holiday gift for my husband.
He wants to have a portable speaker to use around house for playing music and connecting to our TV and laptop. I want to get him something that can be connected via blue tooth and/or hardwired. That way he could stream music from his mobile devices and laptops as well as our TV. We are thinking about upgrading our TV to one of those really thin LED flat screen models, which typically suffer from poor sound quality. There were several wireless speakers to choose from at Radio Shack but I narrowed down my choices to JBL Flip Portable and the Beats by Dr. Dre Pill wireless speakers. The JBL speaker was marked at $99 and the Beats Pill was priced at $199. For a $100 dollar difference I had to see if the Beats Pill was worth it. After checking them both out in the store I could tell the Beats Pill sounded a little bit better than the JBL Speaker. The question is did it sound $100 better?
I have to say it didn’t sound that much better. However the Beats Pill by Dr. Dre gets more style points and it comes in a variety of colors. After all of this I’m still on the fence about which product to purchase. Reading the reviews on the Radio Shack website were a little bit helpful but confusing. The JBL speakers received a better review over the Beat Pill. But the both received some negative comments about battery life. This may not be such a big concern since I will be using the speakers in my house between two different rooms and occasionally outside during the summer. Well before I make my purchase I am going to do more research. At least when I am ready I know that Radio Shack will have my back.
So I came to RadioShack to shop for my husbands gift but instead got a gift for myself. My new Samsung Galaxy s4 needed a case so when I saw this cute Otterbox Commuter Hard Case, I loved the way it looked and it is a protective case with slots to accommodate credit cards, ID and cash.
And for my daughter, the big Hello Kitty fan, I picked this adorable Hello Kitty 2.1 MP digital camera with 3 Interchangeable Faceplates. She’ll be able to shoot photos to share with friends and family.
I remember few years ago I didn’t know what to get for my mom and I knew she didn’t have a camera. It was already 2 days before Christmas so I decided to go to my RadioShack and I got her the cute pink simple point and shoot camera made by Kodak. I think I paid around $130, it was reduced just before Christmas. I was very happy with the purchase and my mom loved the gift and to this day uses it and loves it. I saw some cameras on sale. I think the prices are good as 4 years ago the prices were higher and now the cameras are better built, slimmer with more features and more megapixels.
Overall I enjoyed my holiday shopping at RadioShack. I feel bad that I wasn’t able to get the speaker for my husband. Once I get home I will do more research on the speaker and perhaps discuss with him.
I highly recommend RadioShack sores for your last minute holiday gifts. You can also visit RadioShack Holiday Gift Center online.
