This past Sunday I dragged my husband with me to Kohl’s to do some shopping. Being that it is not football season yet I figured his Sunday schedule was pretty open. I was also eager to take advantage of a 20% off coupon that Kohl’s had emailed me. Plus I had Kohl’s credit on a gift card that I was just waiting to use.
We were looking for some things for our kids for back to school and for some things around the house. We are almost finished with our home renovation and pretty much did a number on the outside doormat and both interior doormats. So they needed replacing as well as a new bed sheet for our queen-sized mattress. I am embarrassed to share but we have been sleeping on a sheet with a couple of holes in it. I guess we are the only ones to see our mattress so we weren’t in that much of a rush.
So we arrived at Kohl’s around 2pm on a bright sunny day. The mall where our Kohl’s is located is sort of like an outdoor courtyard with all of the retail stores centered on several outdoor escalators.
When we entered the Kohl’s and I asked my husband to grab a small cart he didn’t complain so I knew he was ready to shop. Although he pretty much tells me that he hates shopping I sometimes catch that glimmer in his eye when we find something really cool for the house. Maybe there is hope for him yet.
As we walked through the Children section first I noticed there had some pretty cool Back to school deals. They had good buys on T-shirts, School Backpacks and college stuff.
I couldn’t help to get this cutest dog tee for my daughter. She loves dogs!
Although most kids backpacks were on sale and cost around $15 each I prefer to pay a bit more extra to get a good quality backpacks for my kids that will last at least throughout the whole school year. In my experience if I get this fancy good looking cheap backpack for $15 it only lasts 2-3 months and the books end up ripping the bottom of the backpack and I find myself shopping for a new backpack every 2-3 months. (More on the backpack i chose later in the post)
As I walked through the girls clearance section isle I could not help to notice the outfit for a girl and for her American Girl doll was on clearance and on sale for $7 (The original price was $55) I was like what? I had to have it for my daughter. I was searching for more Dolly and me stuff but this was the only one outfit left. As you can see the reason it was most likely on clearance because this is from July 4th sale. The outfit is American Flag Dolly and Me. I still thought it was super cute and the price was excellent. My daughter screamed when she saw it. This is her first Dolly and Me outfit. Of course she wore it right away and dressed her dolly in the same outfit.
As we walked towards the home goods section I found myself stopping a couple of times and checking out some of the woman’s and kids clothes. It is a good thing my husband was there because he would say, “come on we are here for certain things”. This ended up saving me from buying some impulse items, which I really didn’t need. We hit the bed sheet section first and found several different sets on sale. We originally found this Jennifer Lopez sheet set for sale that was 600 thread count and really soft. But it was $100 sale price and soon after we settled on a much cheaper set that was 400-thread count. We didnt have a lot of color choices options so we settled on this neutral blue color which I thought it was OK and live-able with. Oh and check out this is my first tomato on the vine from my back yard. It is august 7th and I just found the whole bunch of green tomatoes but only 2 were red. But I think they are becoming red every day now and we will have the whole bunch of red ones in a week. They are so juicy and delicious. Can’t even compare from the store…
We then went over to the doormats and took a look at what they had. Some were too big and some too small. Some had glitter on them, which we figured would just end up inside the house. Some had this like plastic grass for wiping your feet. My husband said that all types of stuff would get stuck in it. So we settled on a rubber mat that said, “Welcome”. It had some nice colors to it and was the perfect size for our front door. The sale price was $13.99 which I thought was pretty reasonable.
Next we moved over to the indoor doormat section. For these we prefer a carpet type material in a dark usually black color that doesn’t show too much dirt. We needed two one for the front door and one for the back. We chose a black one with small whitish checkers on it for the front door. And the price was $14.99 which I thought it was OK.
The one for the back door had been reduced to 3 dollars but it was way too ugly so we didn’t get it. In the same aisle my husband found this black plastic tray meant for boots and shoes. He said it would be great for those rainy or snowy days that way we didn’t mess up our new floors. It actually made sense and was perfect. When not in use it could be stored away in a closet. The price tag on it said $9.99 and then I went to the nearest price checker to check the price it still said $9.99 but when the cashier scanned this price tag at the register the price was $1.99. I only discovered it later in the evening when I looked at my receipt very closely. I was like wow..so most likely I will go back to Kohls tomorrow to get the second piece for our back door in the basement.
After the floor mats were pretty much done. I did manage to find a nice book bag for my son to use when school starts this September. As I mentioned before I did not want to get the cheap $15 backpack only to find out 2 month later that it is falling apart. So I got the bottom one made by Adidas. The original item price is $70. The sale price was $54 and after my friends and family coupon I paid $47.89. I know it’s a bit pricey for the 6th grader but I know 100% it will last him at least 2 years as it is made of thicker materials, better quality, soft padding inside and the bottom is double durable that I know will not get damaged by heavy books or even a lap top.
Other than that we were done. We walked up to one check out line and it seemed to be a long wait. So we walked all the way to the other side of the store and that line was even longer with less cashiers helping out. So we walked back to the original line and waited patiently to be called on. When we got up to the register the total came a bit over $100 then I told the clerk I have an extra 20% family and friends coupon to use. At first I was having trouble bringing it up on my phone and I could see my husband was getting anxious. Then the clerk said don’t worry and she scanned one she had at the register. After the 20% off I used I used my Kohl’s gift card credit and we ended up paying nothing for all of that good stuff. And on top of everything we got $20 dollars in Kohl’s Cash. That was an added bonus and well worth the shopping trip. After the shopping trip to Kohl’s we stopped off at Applebee’s for some half priced appetizers and drinks. I have to say this Sunday shopping with my husband at Kohl’s was a pretty good day.
So I want to know:
What is your opinion on Kohl’s? Have you ever shopped at Kohl’s before? What do you typically buy when shopping there?
What brands are you shopping for? Or what are your most favorite brands at Kohl’s?
