Okay I’m wondering how many of you have heard that slogan before? Well if you haven’t click on the link and maybe it will jar your memory. I’m sure some of you are nodding your heads and singing along at this very moment. I remember my little brother would watch the Transformers cartoon when we would get home from school. I wasn’t really into it but the jingle from the show would get stuck in my head and I would find myself singing along to it later that day.
Well it has been a long time since the Transformers first came out in the early 80’s and my younger brother no longer watches the show thankfully. However my 10 year old son who has been exposed to the transformers revival, as I like to call it is a fan. He has watched some of the newer and older cartoons thanks to netflix, the cartoon network and DVD’s. His favorites though are the Transformer movies that have brought his favorite characters to life on the big screen.
My son has also been a bit of a Transformer toy collector up until recently. One of his or my biggest complaints is the small parts that occasionally go missing. Some of his transformers are missing hands, arms, and legs and sometimes heads. I guess it is not that much fun to play with a toy once it is missing some of its appendages. So when I was contacted recently to review the new Transformer Beast Hunter series I was a bit skeptical to start off.
On the other side though my son who has gotten a bit older was still interested in checking out the new series ( third season of the cartoon, in which the Autobots contend with not just Megatron‘s Decepticons, but also with the Predacons.)
When it arrived in the mail I gave it to him to see what he would think. After about an hour of manipulating the Transformer and changing it from its various forms I heard the words, “Mom, can you help me?” When I went into his room he was kneeling over the Transformer with instructions in hand.
He said, “I can’t get it back to the way it was”. Now I’m no Transformer expert by far but I’m pretty good at puzzles and those sorts of things. I’ve got to say for the life of me I could not get the transformer back to its original shape. The instructions seemed pretty clear but no matter what part I manipulated, twisted, or pushed it would not go back to the original shape.
After about 20 minutes of trying I gave up and told him to play with it like it was. I thought of calling up my brother and asking him for advice but figured it wasn’t worth the trouble. After about another 30 minutes my son called me back to his room and somehow to my surprise he was able to figure it out. At this point he made a really good suggestion, which I would like to pass on to the makers of Transformers. He said, “They should have How-To videos on their website for when you get stuck”. I say that is a brilliant idea. If more people were able to figure out their Transformers maybe they would be able to enjoy them more. So Hasbro if you happen to read this review take my son’s advice and put some how-to videos on your site. It would be very much appreciated by parents all over the world.
