OK I have to ask you a question that pretty much everyone can relate to. How many of you enjoy cleaning your house? I’m talking vacuuming, dusting, mopping, wiping, scrubbing, toilet brushing, and more. Don’t all jump for joy at once. I’m pretty sure that there aren’t many of you out there who truly enjoy house-cleaning chores.
Don’t get me wrong everyone loves to have a nice neat and clean house but we would rather do without all of the hard work. And the hard work seems to be a never-ending process. I kind of wish my house had a self-cleaning button on it. You know how some ovens have a self-cleaning feature. It would be great if our houses did as well. That way we could go out shopping or to the gym, hit the self-cleaning button and come home to a sparkly clean house.
Well in the mean time while the scientists are busy working that one out there is an alternative. You can hire someone to clean the house for you. That is until your children are old enough to do the job for you. I mean come on what do we have children for anyway if not to help with all of the chores around the house. OK I kid and I digress from the topic at hand. There are plenty of people out there who advertise their cleaning services on the Internet. Now I wouldn’t suggest just calling someone you found on a Craig’s list ad. That could be a little dangerous inviting someone into your home that you know nothing about. I would most likely be a good idea to hire a company that is licensed and insured and recommended by your local better business bureau.
I recently had the opportunity to try out a new company that does home, apartment and office cleaning in the New York City area. They also serve San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, and Chicago. Their name is EXEC cleaning company. I made an appointment with them last week to come to my house and do a cleaning. The appointment was easy to schedule on their web site. You simply input your zip code and see if the service is available in your area. Then you select the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you have and then you will be brought to the next screen where you see the available dates and time (you can select morning or afternoon service). Then you input your address and you can pay securely online. I liked the fact that their website mentions that they use 100% non-toxic and organic cleaning products.
On Friday two cleaning girls arrived at my house at 12 PM. They had all of their supplies and equipment with them minus the vacuum cleaner, which I supplied.
I immediately liked that fact they put on a blue slippers over their sneakers (similar to those blue disposable fabric/plastic booties that they use in the hospital or at the doctor’s office).
The girls were both very polite and asked me what my expectations were for them. After taking them on a walk through of my house and showing them some special areas that needed attention they went to work. They had two bathrooms, a kitchen, 2 kids bedrooms, a living room and two hallways to clean. I didn’t ask them to clean my third bedroom since my husband uses it as an office and didn’t want to be disturbed. I pretty much left them alone to do their cleaning. I did take a couple of peaks to see how they were doing.
After about 2 and a half hours they were finished. Upon initial inspection I was quite impressed. All of the floors looked good. They were even able to get this tough stains off of my stove-top that had been there for years. Even the tea kettle sparkled.
I asked the girl how she managed to clean the stains so well. She replied ” Magic sponge”. At first I thought she was joking with me but then she showed me the magic sponge they used. It looked like this. Wow I will have to check out more on this Magic Sponge. Has anyone tried this magic sponge before?
After inspecting the bathroom I could see that they were spotless. The mirrors were very clear and all of the tiles were free of soap scum. With the exception of few tiny spots in the shower and behind the sink faucet it was spotless.
After they left I asked my husband to check out the house and give me his opinion. He walked around like the inspector general. I almost half expected him to whip out a white glove and go around checking for dust. He was very happy with everything except the dusting job in the living room, in my kids 2 bedrooms and the entry hallway was undone & untouched. He pointed out that there were spots that were simply not dusted or were missed. Now in all fairness to the cleaning girls I have to mention that there were legos and other breakable toys on most of these shelves. I should have removed these items to make it easier for them to dust in those areas.
I would also recommend to give the cleaning girls the exact instructions on what needs to be done and to point those areas. Obviously they are not a mind readers.
All in all the girls from the EXEC cleaning company did a good job of cleaning our house. I would rate the service 7 out of 10.
One of my only complaints about the company would be their price ($167 for 2 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms. If you have 1 bathroom then the price is $137) Even though this is the city I thought they were a little too high. Tip is included in this price though. But thanks to Exec Cleaning they provided a coupon to my readers. When scheduling your appointment use a coupon code lovemykidsblog and this will give you $40 off your cleaning service.
My other complaint is that the service is not available in most popular Manhattan zip codes. When I input my New York City midtown office zip code (42nd street and 5th Avenue location) it showed the service was not available. I was quite surprised as my location is only 8 blocks away from Empire State Building where they do clean.
The best I like about Exec Cleaning service is they guarantee you a happiness. The girls will come back and clean your house for free if you’re not happy for any reason. The customer service was excellent!
I received a complimentary cleaning for my house to facilitate this review. All opinions & thoughts are mine and mine alone.
