Reverse Surprise

It had been raining the whole weekend and I really needed to get out of the house and run some errands.  The only problem, I am afraid of driving in the rain.  I think this is something that was inherited from my mother.   If there was rain, snow, ice, too much sun or not enough sun she would not drive.  It was like the driving conditions had to be just perfect for her to take the car out. And don’t get me started on her fear of driving on the highways.  Anyhow the weather finally broke and I was glad to not only get out of the house but to get to the stores.  I was planning a surprise birthday party for my twin sister Abigail and it was supposed to happen in a week.  As a kid she had always talked about having a surprise party.  About how exciting it would be to walk into our house and have people jumping out behind couches and doors saying, “Happy Birthday”.   I couldn’t wait to make her dream come true.

First stop on my list was the caterer. All I had to do was sign off on a few things and leave the final deposit.  I was in and out of there in a jiffy.  Next stop was the florist.  Abigail just loved spring flowers and I wanted to get her the most beautiful birthday flowers.  The florist was great and she promised to deliver several arrangements early in the morning the day of the party.  The next and last stop was the party supply store.  Even though my sister is turning “40” I figured she would still enjoy some party favors, games, streamers and balloons.  I mean what’s party without all of that stuff.
So I was finished with all the arrangement it was time to head back home before the skies decided to open up again.  I grabbed all of the party supplies out of my car and walked up the path to my front door.  As soon as I opened the door people jumped out of everywhere yelling, “Surprise”, and “Happy Birthday”.  There were balloons and streamers going off everywhere.  My house was filled with good friends, family and of course Abigail.  She was standing in the corner with a big smirk on her face and she said, “Gotya Sis.  Happy Birthday.”
